i think id tech is not the right engine to present games that supposed to look "real". Wolfenstein was obviously over the top. I really do like machinegames and hope for a really good adventure.

The game engine has nothing to do with the art style. The same engine can handle photorealism and fantasy equally well in the right hands.

Remember back in the day when unrel engine games always had this shiny metal look on everything? this was because the engine was not good handeling bounced lighting. also here you can tell by the looks that ID Tech is behind it. There is absolutely a connection to the visuals. The same game in UE5 or on Naughtydogs engine would look different 100%
