1:46 23GB VRAM usage holy shiiiiit. 24GB on the 4090 is just barely enough.

i think its more of allocated memory, than used memory. you usually want a chunk of memory to work with, than allocating new all the time.

It's more than enough as the game is memory handling effectively, unlike on 10-12GB cards using too high settings which then choke, there is no choke point ona 24GB card as there's always enough VRAM and bandwidth to handle the load at any given moment. Unlike in other games, have yet to see a single fps dip because of such issues and I'm over 16 hours into the campaign.

It's still kind of a bummer we can't use path-tracing with something less than the 4090. Since CDPR did a fantasting job with it in Cyberpunk, even my 3080 (12gb) could run path-traced gameplay with over 60 with DLSS on Balance at 1440p. The "normal" RT gameplay is state of the art in terms of optimisation with 90% of the time above 120 fps (Supreme+DLSS Quality at 1440p), amazing visuals out of the box even without full RT, but i think there needs to be some ray culling in areas that do not utilise the tech atm because the engine renders too many (distant) light sources at once that are not visible thus creating this insane step of performance. I know it's just the 1st patch but there is work to be done with path-tracing atm. Playing right now with the settings and it seems like the Global Illumination/Indirect RT setting doesn't really "recalculate" the light better or more accurately, it's doing quite the opposite, making some light soruces fuzzy (it's a bug for sure - the 1st level with the jungle - also if you use just RT shadows, the cave there is completely lit up. For it to render correctly you have to enable the Indirect light RT because RT shadows overwrite the shader inside.). RT reflections are pretty good-ish.

It's definitely in the right direction I'm in Giza at the moment so have not seen what it's like in the earlier areas but in this area it looks stunning for the most part. I think shadow softness could be improved as many shadows have a very hard outline still but that's nitpicking id say. Being able to use DLSS quality and get 60fps or balanced for 85fps is a huge plus point as Giza is one of the heaviest areas of the game so far.

So is it impossible to run Path Tracing with 3080 12 GB at 1440p? I've seen that patch notes have said that a minimum of 12 GB of VRAM is required.

came here for the numbers, stayed for the gameplay. looks fun and can't wait to play on game pass. it's funny how enemies don't bother using their guns. lol

They do if you alert too many of them or if you use a gun! Though it can be a bit random too. Makes it fun I think, start throwing hands and they will start Fight Club lol.

I accidentally came across a video, and I looked at how the opponents react and I'm upset that they are so stupid - there's a fight going on 5 metres away, and the opponent doesn't react and doesn't pull out his gun to shoot. And on the graphics - what a miracle decision to make a lighter as a torch on the floor of the room. . . .

It can be a bit dumb when using the default action settings (you can change them in the game settings later too) but they are like this seemingly by design because this is the kind of ridiculous comic -ness as per Indiana Jones movies - It makes the game more fun I feel, you know what to expect in this regard, or if you increase the action settings then end up with a bit more of a challenge too.

Glad to see this. Should hopefully be about the performance I'll see at 1440p, as it's half of 4k, and I'm running a 4070 ti super which is a bit better than half of a 4090. Hope my 5900x doesn't hold things back too much.

It gets a bit higher than that in some other parts of the game! But yeah at 4K even upscaled the system requirements are accurate for GPU need.

i am sure it can handle path tracing, since you can even implement path tracing on cpu rendering, it all depends on the level of detail and framerate you want :)

How come you can't disable ray tracing altogether?? I literally have to run the game at low settings cause otherwise I go over my vram usage and my fps suffers

It's because RTGI is used for the lighting system, so RT cannot be turned off. Like in Unreal Engine 5 games which always has RT on (Lumen) though by default it's software Lumen with optional hardware Lumen if a dev enables it.

@@bloom-mania FSR requires additional work to implement and they have said fsr is coming soon in a new update. Path tracing doesn't need anything to work on AMD, AMD just need good RT hardware which they don't currently have.

@@yvese cyberpunk with pt runs just fine on my rx7800xt at 1080p and it doesnt matter how it performs cause at 4k on the 4090 it runs like shit, it should still be an option on amd cards

You can use AMD adrenaline software to enable FSR, it's working but a there is artifacts.
