Also John Rhys Davis, Indy's friend Sallah, later plays Gimli in Lord of the Rings. And the music in the Indiana Jones is composed by John Williams, the composer for Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, and others.

22:53 - The captain was trying to save Marion. He thought that if he acted like a heartless pirate, the Germans would be more likely to leave her with him, than if he simply asked them to spare her. 24:30 - I always assumed that the sand in the ark was what was left of the tablets. 26:12 - When I saw the scene at the end, I just thought that all of the boxes were there to hide the one box that had the Ark in it. So if someone found out where it was, they wouldn't know which box it was in.

You may be correct on the first 2, your third opinion is probably not correct. I think that end scene was just displaying how many artifacts the military/U.S. Government has confiscated over the years. The same as The Vatican, they have shitloads of artifacts, books and historical pieces that the public never gets to see. That's the way I see it.

20:00 My dad witnessed an accident like this. A DC-6 was getting ready to fly to Vietnam with a bunch of solders. In the US The military will hire airlines to transport people (military and sometimes dependents) and this was the case this time. But the pilots had forgotten some paperwork and the flight attendant (a very pretty young girl) left the plane to go back to the terminal to get the needed paperwork. Without thinking she walked into the plane's propeller. Dad said the amount of blood sprayed onto the airplane in this scene was a tiny fraction of what was sprayed around in the real life accident. My dad actually hated this scene because it brought back memories.

Good grief. That's awful. In fairness, they had to keep the blood as low as possible to get a PG rating. PG-13 didn't exist until 1984, and ironically, "Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom" was the impetus of its creation.

05:37 That's an amazing composite shot, made before the digital age. In reality they found and old plane in a junkyard or something. They fixed it up enough so it looked presentable but they could only get one engine running. Then they built scaffolding next to on which the extras were filmed as they boarded the plane. To passers by, it must have looked puzzling, a bunch of people in old style clothing walking on a scaffold next to an old derelict plane. Movie magic in those days was done with matte paintings. Nowadays they still use mattes but they are digital and 3D. So in old movies, they could not change the camera angle or do any camera movements. Therefore such composite shots tended to be short. Used in establishing shots.

Hey, Dasha! This film is widely considered to be THE BEST action-adventure movie EVER made! Lucas and Spielberg collaborate on the series and, like Star Wars, it is inspired by 1930s serials. Each film is a standalone adventure. Each film involves an occult artifact of mystic power so there is a magical fantasy element to each story in keeping with the tone of pulpy serials. The fourth film differs because there is a science fiction element to the story which is at variance with the tone of the rest of the series but it does reunite two of the early cast members. A fifth entry with Ford is planned. Legendary comic book artist Jim Steranko designed the look of Indiana Jones down to the fedora, whip, satchel and brown leather jacket. The capuchin was awfully cute despite being loyal to a Nazi spy! I always feel bad for it. Despite making for a great laugh, I always feel bad for the tulwar-brandishing swordsman. The dude probably dedicated his adult life to mastering the art of dueling with that blade and he's summarily dispatched by an offhand bullet. I kinda wish Indy had just incapacitated him with a shot to the leg or hand instead! The actual reason for the gag was that Ford was crippled by a horrible case of loose bowels and couldn't perform an elaborate fight sequence! Ronald Lacey, who played Toht, was a veteran character actor who evoked fear and revulsion by virtue of his performance. As a Gestapo officer, he represents the worst of the worst traipsing about in black leather under the blistering desert sun. His anemic pallor, fleshy lips twisted in a malicious sneer and unblinking eyes beneath rimless glasses make him seem cruel and cold. His quickening breath at the prospect of torture reveal him to be a twisted sadist. "Toht" means death in German. I think his character is terrifying! His best moment, though, is a humorous one as he threateningly toys with what Belloq and Marion perceive as some obscene torture device which is revealed to be nothing more than a coat hanger! The bald German pugilist from the airfield was played by the late Pat Roach who appeared in the first three Indy adventures as a different massive opponent who meets a grisly fate. Indy's charismatic French rival Belloq, played by Paul Freeman, represents the shadow side of the character. They're both tomb-robbers but Indy wants to preserve while Belloq seeks to exploit. Indy's Egyptian ally Sallah, played by the inimitable John Rhys-Davies, was Gimli the Dwarf in the "Lord of the Rings"! The treacherous guide with tarantulas all over his back was a young Alfred Molina! If you wondered how Indy managed to hitch a ride on a Nazi sub to the remote island where the Ark is opened without drowning along the way, it's because early WWII-era subs rarely dove in order to vent exhaust and refresh their air supply. Submerging was normally reserved for stealth attacks. Even if it had dove, they normally didn't dive deeply and Indy could tether himself to the highest point with his whip. With a little bit of luck and a short journey, it's a plausible scenario. Subs spent most of their time beneath the surface only after becoming nuclear-powered. Harrison Ford became a megastar with these films and the role of Indiana Jones is one of his signature parts. The others are Han Solo from Star Wars, Rick Deckard from Blade Runner and Jack Ryan from the Tom Clancy thrillers. No one knows where that mammoth warehouse is located that houses the Ark of the Covenant discreetly stored amid what could be countless other treasures in unmarked crates but I've always imagined it to be some government black site like Area 51. Lol.

RE Pat Roach: I can't remember if they filmed a scene of him fighting Indy in Last Crusade, but his only scene that remained in the movie had him as a background character during the Nazi Rally scene. For some reason all his other scenes were cut. The company that made Indy's fedora for this movie is still in business, btw. In fact you can still buy the same hat. It's the "Poet" model by Herbert Johnson, and comes in the classic brown, but they also have a version in the grey he wears when boarding the Pan Am Clipper.

So, fun fact about that scene where Indy shoots the swordsman - the script originally had a long, drawn out sword fight that was supposed to occur. But the day they were supposed to film it, Harrison Ford had the runs and was in no shape to be running around wielding a sword. So instead, the script was changed on the spot and had Ford just pull out his revolver and shoot the guy dead. That way, Ford didn’t have to do much moving around, and the shooting was able to wrap faster.

Snakes can make good pets. Ball pythons are especially good pets, sometimes. They eat once a week, poop 1-2 times per week in a little pellet, and you clean and fill their water bowl once a week, so they are fairly low maintenance. They can be picky eaters if they get too stressed out though.

Love Indy, love this movie, though the third one is my absolute favorite. And yes, a very young Alfred Molina, this was his first movie role, and the spider scene was his first day, can you imagine?! According to him, the way hey got the spiders to act that way was to have dozens of male tarantulas, but none of them moved. Stephen Spielberg asked why they were still and the spider wrangler said, “we have to put a female in the center and they’ll fight.” Day one, spiders scrambling all over you… no acting required to look scared.

The movie was somewhat true to the Bible as to what happened to those that looked at the ark. That’s why Indiana told her not to look because he knew from the Bible what would happen just as he asked the police at the beginning “didn’t you ever go to Sunday school?” The Bible actually describes what happened to the people who looked at The real Ark of the covenant. In 1 Samuel 6:19 it says this : “And he struck some of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they looked upon the ark of the Lord. He struck seventy men of them, and the people mourned because the Lord had struck the people with a great blow” That was what happened as we saw them all get struck down. Then in Revelation 11:19 it says “Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail”. That when we see all the ghosts or spirits flying around everywhere. Indiana knew exactly what would happen to those people There are many passages that describe the ark and what happens when people look until it was in the temple of Solomon.

So now, we can ALL watch the movie at the same time ... together, and at least "1" of us (ONE) will be 👀 watching 👀 the movie 😁😊👍😉🌹. Now, I'm ready to begin ... "Run, Forest, Run" ... yeah, we caught that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Ok, the movie is over now, and once again, you have done an awesome reaction for us. THIS is why we keep coming back. Can't wait for the next one.

When you're talking about Marion still being a girl, I think the word you're looking for is "femininity" (as in "She still has her femininity").

Hi Dasha..I rarely leave comments but I just wanted to tell you that you are my favorite movie reactor. I think that you are very intelligent, funny and easy on the eyes. I especially like your accent and the way that you are sometimes confused on the right words to say. I watch a lot of reactions on KZbin, but I get most excited for your videos. Keep up the great work and thanks for the excellent content.

Trivia: The famous scene in which Indy shoots a marauding and flamboyant swordsman was not in the original script. Harrison Ford was supposed to use his whip to get the sword out of his attacker's hands, but the food poisoning he and the rest of the crew had gotten made him too sick to perform the stunt. After several unsuccessful tries, Ford suggested "shooting the sucker". Steven Spielberg immediately took him up on the idea, and the scene was successfully filmed. Great reaction as always, Dasha!🍿👍🏻

harrison ford is one of the few actors that never needed to change his accent or wear a fat suit and change his face, he's just total star power and can practically be himself in every role, like bruce willis, clint eastwood or burt reynolds, the big hitters of hollywood Harrison Ford was actually a carpenter working on a movie set when he was discovered and put into a movie, he had the look and charisma

You mentioned that you used to want a snake as a pet. I used to have a 4 foot Ball python snake as a pet. Whenever I heard someone knocking at my front door, I would get my snake and answer the door while holding the snake. I loved seeing people's reactions when they realized what I was holding. lol the snake helped get rid of alot of people that I didn't want to talk to because they were too afraid of the snake. lol

Great reaction Dasha! Once again I had to stay up past my bedtime for it, the joy of working night shift, but your videos are worth it. The coat hanger fools everyone the first time. This is a really good movie and I'm glad you enjoyed it (for the second time). Another movie I think you'll enjoy is Red Heat. I have to keep bringing this up now to remind you since you say you have a fish memory, but I don't think you do because you remember details from other movies well. I also liked when you threw that run Forrest run in there. Anyway I'm rambling and tired so I'll finish with keep up the great work and I look forward to your next video.

Harrison ford has a scar on his chin sustained during the making of Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark. Additionally in the market scene where indy shoots the swordsman., ford improvised the use of the gun as he wanted to finish the scene quickly as he was ill.

One of the other KZbin Reactors was watching Raiders, and when Marion came out with the white dress, the reactor said, "Oh, the dress is so beautiful!", then you got to see that big ugly flower in the back, and the reactor said, "Ugh, I changed my mind on that!" There was a 1954 movie called Secret Of The Incas with Charlton Heston, and a lot was lifted out of that movie for Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Heston's character was dressed almost exactly like Indiana Jones, with the fedora hat and black leather jacket.

@11:00, what makes Indy such an enduring movie hero is that he is an ordinary man. His day job is teaching at a college. But he has a can-do spirit so the audience roots for him. However, here in this bar he is so effected by Marion’s death that he doesn’t care. He wants to give up. Had it not been for Sallah’s kids, Indy would have went out killing Belloq.

I don't know. Indy seems to be one of the country's outstanding academics, he speaks Latin, Greek, Hindi and Chinese fluently. He also seems to have the physical conditioning of a Navy SEAL. Plus, he's saved both of the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy Grail, and all the children of a small Indian village. I wish I had a quarter of that resume!
