Temple of Doom is a "prequel" of Raiders. Mola Ram, the evil priest, it´s played by Amrish Puri, who was a well known indian actor who passed away in 2005. For me, the perfect description of this movie is... "Darth Indiana". A great original trilogy, being "The last crusade" my favourite. The OST, by John Williams of course, reminds me ALWAYS to Star Wars, specially themes like "battle of the heroes" or "duel of the fates", in the dreadful scenes.

Thanks, Verowak! 🧭 I love the opening musical number so much. Yes, 'Willie' is a damsel in distress trope (as most female characters in the 1930s were depicted)... and very irritating. But otherwise, I think it's an enjoyable ride. And I don't think it's a spoiler to let you know that it was pure lust between them, not love. You won't have to worry about seeing her again.
@TedLittle-yp7uj6 сағат бұрын
There were many, many strong female characters in 1930's films (c.f. Better Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Paulette Goddard, Barbara Stanwyck, etc., etc., etc.) Even in the serials, which the Indiana Jones films were based on, the female characters, though often in peril, were seldom week characters and often rescued the hero.
@auntvesuvi38725 сағат бұрын
@@TedLittle-yp7uj I'm very aware of that. I was speaking of the trope... which is a trope because it was common enough to become a trope. Verowak will surely research more interesting female characters and performers, the more she watches. My mother raised me on Bette Davis. 🥂

My pleasure!! If the Gladiator songs were more easily hummable, I would have hummed that one too! This one was much easier to do 😅 I assumed it was lust between them, I'm just so used to it being love that it felt so weird. Once I realized lust was a thing, it made more sense 😂

@@VerowakReacts I'm quite a fan of Cole Porter songs... of which "Anything Goes" is. Maybe one day you'll watch both of the dramatized biographies about him? This was filmed in Sri Lanka as the Indian government wasn't too happy with the portrayal of Hinduism. An important scene that got cut for time had Indy run into Captain Blumbertt while getting the fruit platter for Willie, where Indy tells him something's off about Pankot because no one should have eaten anything from that feast. It also sets up Blumbertt returning with his Punjab Rifles later.

44:09 - A lot of actors have changed their looks for a role, and that look has become their trademark. For instance, Richard Moll played bald, big-hearted bailiff Bull Shannon on the NBC series _Night Court_ (1984-1992; if you haven't seen it, it's hilarious!). Moll had shaved his head for his role in the movie _Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn_ (1983). The producers of _Night Court_ liked the look so much that Moll kept his head shaved for the entire run of the series, and became famous for it!

Most of the tropes you saw in this and the other Indiana Jones films came from the serials of the 30's. 40's and 50's. Thank you, I'm with you! I'm really not super enthusiastic about Temple of Doom. Willie being one reason, but also this being a prequel simply didn't work. In Raiders, Indy outright says he doesn't believe in the supernatural, when one year earlier he was supposed to have experienced all this? That's just throwing a wrench into the machine for no reason at all. Now Last Crusade ... that was the first one I saw in the theater, and it holds a very special place in my heart. It again is very different from Raiders, and even more different from Temple of Doom. But I will never be able to decide if I prefer Raiders or Last Crusade. I think they're both absolutely excellent, and I cannot wait to see what you think.

Hello Miss Verowak!😊 There has been a lot of criticism over the years over Indiana's love interest and their chemistry in this one. Kate Capshaw would go on to become Mrs. Steven Spielberg. This prequel is my 3rd favorite in the original trilogy, even though Short Round is a fun character. The video arcade game for this film was quite popular. They used Voice snippets of characters from the film like Indiana saying "We walk from here!" and the Mola Ram saying "Welcome". The next film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" is my favorite for many reasons.🏆 Great reactions to the Indiana Jones prequel, Vero!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I wrote my comments about Willie before your outro. The problem with the stories for the films really started here. I don't recommend the films past the 3rd film for that reason.

I know everybody has an issue with Willy’s character, but you have to remember the source material that Indiana Jones is based on. His character is based on the 1940s serialized action adventures that you would get at the movie theaters. She would be a typical damsel and distressed character from that time and actually more accurate to the overall tone of this Indiana Jones series. Marion is a fantastic character in the first movie, but she is definitely more of a modern day woman.

Great reaction like always. Indy didn’t get the girl. Steven Spielberg did. A few years after 'Temple of Doom' came out, Steven Spielberg met up again with Kate Capshaw (Willie)...they were both single and they fell in love. She converted to Judaism, and they are now one of the major power couples in Hollywood. Kate had a daughter from her previous marriage, who is also an actress. Her name is Jessica Capshaw, she is probably best known for her role on 'Grey's Anatomy' as pediatric surgeon Dr. Arizona Robbins. This is not my favorite of the Indiana Jones movies...the next one is. 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' is by far my favorite. The idea of Mola Ram taking someone's heart out and burning it came from George Lucas, who felt his ex-wife did the exact same thing to him. There are some fun-facts about this movie. The exterior of Pankot Palace was realised through the use of both matte paintings & a set constructed at Elstree Studios here in the UK. The bridge & village sequences were filmed in Sri Lanka. Oh & the bats are fruit bats, not vampire bats. Harrison Ford suffered a severe spinal disc herniation by performing a somersault while filming the scene with the assassin in Jones's bedroom. A hospital bed was brought on set for Ford to rest between takes. Lucas stated, "He could barely stand up, yet he was there every day so shooting would not stop. He was in incomprehensible pain, but he was still trying to make it happen." The guard crushed by the roller was played by Pat Roach; the same actor who played the Nazi guard who is diced by the plane in Raiders!!! He also played General Kael in Willow. Keep up the good work.

I've seen so many people say that they love the 3rd one the most!! Thank you for those fun facts, poor Harrison Ford, that is horrible, but I'm impressed he pushed through! A herniated disc is so painful 😨 I'm glad that some good came from Willie, in that Spielberg ended up marrying Kate Capshaw!!

Roshan Seth was seriously good as the Prime Minister who chastized Jones for his rudeness. The deadly Thuggee ritual was terrifying. Seeing Indiana drugged into a crazed Thuggee was quite disturbing. Funny to think of such a meat-centric meal, when, if I'm not mistaken, most Hindus are vegetarian.

26:15 "A Voodoo doll?" Nope. A Kryta. Voodoo is an African religion that was brought to some areas of the Caribbean. It's not a thing in India. That said, this Kryta has the same magical connection to a person as a Voodoo doll would, so yeah, it's just a Voodoo doll in another language, culture, and religion.

I had hoped you wouldn't be so hard on Willie. But it seems to be the concensus among reactors. For me she's just a fun side character way in over her head. I get that people compare her to Marion, but bear in mind, Marion was raised by the very man who was the biggest influence on Indy. Willie is a show girl used to living a life in luxury.

I hate screaming, so a screaming character would never be a fun character for me lol

@VerowakReacts I completely respect that 😊

Your humming the score at the beginning demonstrated excellent pitch. You mean you're not only brilliant, witty and lovely...you sing, too??!

She was doing great until the last phrase. I can’t help but forgive her for that; it was just casual humming, not a performance.

@5:40 Kudos for noting the (in)famous "Wilhelm Scream"! I just noticed it today when rewatching Brian de Palma's "Scarface". It really is everywhere, and has an interesting origin story: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream

It usually takes me out of the movie for a bit when I hear it 🤣

Willy is widely unloved, so you are not alone. The third movie is widely loved. The fourth is okay. Just okay. Skip the fifth if you can.

Gotta remember she's a pampered showgirl. I think everyone forgets that. Kate actually played the role very well even though it was annoying

Oh she played the role really well. I still hate the character though

The love story wasn't weird. It was Hollywood. In movies, you get a handsome actor and a pretty actress in the same movie, their characters inevitably fall in love. Often at first sight. Handsome and pretty, that's all Hollywood needs; forget chemistry, common interest, or even getting to know each other.
@VerowakReacts2 сағат бұрын
To me, it's weird :)
@blakewalker841202 сағат бұрын
@@VerowakReacts LOL, still? After all the movies you've watched. Handsome + pretty = Love. It's just math. Hollywood math. It's been that way since the early black and white movies.

28:20 "They didn't remove her heart or anything." As much as I might have liked to see her bare chest, I'd not like to see her heart removed from it. Also, Spielberg might not have liked to get that R rating for that.

One or two production big shots were going through costly divorces and painted Willie in their current view of women.
