It wasn’t the punter or special teams. IU got held to under 200 yds of O. And if OSU had scored on those other drives in the red zone like they normally do, this game would have been much much worse. But look, it’s been a great year for Indiana and if they win next week they’re in. I’m genuinely happy to see different teams rise up and become relevant.
@Hyposonic6 күн бұрын
Amazing how many people think special teams cost Indiana the game. The game was not close by any metric. OSU played their 2nd string defensive line most of the 2nd half. They're 2nd half play calling was just to burn time. A blowout wouldn't have helped anyone in the B1G, including OSU. The big game is next week in Buckeye Nation.
@georgesouthwick70006 күн бұрын

If the whole team melts down because of one play, they deserve to lose. We need to give that punter a break. Lots of things happened in that game, to include Ohio State being stopped inside the 10 twice and an interception, but Ohio State just said, "Next!" Indiana said, "Oh no, not again."
@atlasmitchell6 күн бұрын
As an longtime Indiana football fan, you have no idea how deep the words, "Oh, no, not again" hit. It's the story of almost every season. Ohio State is absolutely the better team and deserved to win, and let's acknowledge the momentum swing that was caused by special teams essentially giving up 14 free points - deflating IU's offense and defense.
@steveniemyer92886 күн бұрын
I’m not sure what game you watched but the score made it seem closer than it was. OSU defense dominated the game other than the first drive where Indiana went 75 yards to score. In the second and third quarter Indiana had 3 total yards combined on 8 drives. In the fourth quarter, when the game was in the bag, OSU went to a prevent type defense and let Indiana score on a 75 yard drive that took up 7 minutes of clock. The game should have been over at half time. OSU could have been up 28 to 7 at half if it wasn’t for the interception and turnover on downs in the red zone, again the score made it closer than it was.
@theflew6 күн бұрын
Agreed. OSU had backups in on IU's second TD. The game was over. OSU could care less if IU wanted to run a 7 minute drive for a score. What OSU didn't like was the 2 point conversion, followed by the onside kick attempt.
@cpfink12426 күн бұрын
The whole “2 plays changed this game” narrative is absolute nonsense. Hoosiers scored on their first and last possessions. To reduce this game to the punter, or more broadly to special teams, is ludicrous. You need to stop watching games with your heart. Indiana could only muster 150 yards in the game and got almost half of those in their opening drive.
@stevenfagaly38106 күн бұрын
Bruh, Ohio State dominated. Average gain per pass play: OSU 7.7 IU 3.8. Average yards per rush: OSU 4.0 IU 2.1. Twice the yards per play for both. Total yards OSU 316 IU 153. Twice the total yards with essentially two fewer possessions. What, you just assume OSU doesn't drive for a score those two possessions? Quit rewriting history. This was an expected and total beat down.
@atlasmitchell6 күн бұрын
Ohio State is the better team and played far better. However, the average yards per rush stat you presented counts the five sacks and the 23 yards lost on the muffed punt as rushing attempts for IU, which obviously skews the performance of the running game. Take those out and IU's yards per called running play are over 4.5 - surprisingly good, considering OSU's highly rated defense! At the same time, IU held OSU to 135 fewer yards than their season average, including 42 fewer yards than against Penn State and 153 (!!!) fewer yards than against Oregon. So, IU's defense was surprisingly solid, too! IU deserved to lose because of abysmal (borderline nonexistent) pass-blocking and the aforementioned special teams mistakes. I don't think Isaac Punts is rewriting history. He may be minimizing the dire pass-blocking situation in favor of the special teams mistakes, sure - but he's not rewriting history.

OSU was literally THE only good opponent on the Indiana schedule this season. Having the 101st ranked SoS meant Indiana HAD to beat OSU to get the statement win they needed to stay in the CFB Playoff hunt. They failed miserably and under normal circumstances, where the SEC isn't eating itself alive, this loss would have kept Indiana out of the playoffs with no resume to speak of BUT with Ole Miss, Bama and Texas A+M all losing yesterday, this gives Indiana a glimmer of hope that they can pick up an at large bid.

You can keep blaming the punter or special teams for the loss but you take the 14 points away it’s still a 9 point loss. The story of the game was a 75 yard opening drive for Indiana. 153 total yards for the game. 30 free yards that drive on penalties. The last scoring drive another penalty put IU on the goal line. So “without punting miscues” IU loses by 9. Without penalties IU gets shut out. See how that logic doesn’t always help? If this was a clean game on both sides this could have just as easily been a 9 point 24-15 loss as a 52-0 shut out. All three phases matter in football. Considering Ohio State lost a natty a couple years ago because of special teams We get it.

So anytime IU did anything well, it was lucky, but anytime OSU did anything well, it was because they're terrific? I can see how you'd argue the interception on a tipped ball was lucky, but how on earth is a goal-line stand against OSU's powerhouse offense lucky? OSU is the better team, but the way you phrased your comment sounds like you're just confirming your preexisting biases.

Life long Indiana fan and watching those 2 plays hurt me so bad the missed snap I understand not kicking it but at least try to throw the ball and on the return it looked like #44 on IU got held but no flag was thrown but either way no excuse to execute like that when you were #1 in the Big 10

Indiana just played like what they really are, A sub standard team. they are really overrated. now the world saw that they don't belong in the playoffs.

Indiana should never have been ranked 5th. They played nobody in 10 games. Washington was their biggest name win, but the Huskies were down from last year. That shows the polls are a joke.

@@IsaacPunts - but you are well balanced - you show us both the awesome punters and the awful punters. It’s not one sided.

Not top ten? Check out the other games yesterday and tell me how many of those teams deserve to go above Indiana. 8-3 Alabama? 8-3 Ole Miss? 8-3 Colorado? Nope! Maybe you can drop them a place or three, but think about this: if OSU loses to M and IU beats Purdue, it's IU going to the B1G championship. Don't think OSU will lose to M? Did you think Alabama would stomp Oklahoma? IU definitely belongs in the playoffs.
