@@ia7277 Wow, responding to a year old comment by implying that they're mentally handicapped. You sound like a cool and smart person, and you're probably not at all insufferable to be around! That said, I agree with @Patryc. The name of the video is "What is LiDAR Drone Surveying", and the gentleman hosting the video says LiDAR about twenty times, but doesn't once define what LiDAR is (Light Detection And Ranging, or Laser Imaging Detection And Ranging if it is spelled LIDAR). The video alludes to the process, but it would have been cool to overview what it is and how it works instead of seeing slo-mo footage (which almost seemed disruptive by the end). Not a bad video, but it could have been better and much more informative.

Many surveying jobs are processed in local/arbitrary coordinate systems. Can this system deliver point clouds in these custom reference systems and different scale factors?
@IndianaDrones3 жыл бұрын
Hey Drew! Yeah we do this by uploading a both the GCP in the site coordinate system and the corresponding point on the LiDAR dataset. We need at least 4 pts to compute the false northing/easting and scale factor. We also have a way to project into grid then manually enter in the false northing/easting and scale.

Thank you for your efforts, really appreciate it! One topic I'd actually be quite interested in - though it may be too personal - is how you got into it all. What formal qualifications did you need? Did you start out with all that expensive equipment, including the LiDAR, or with a simpler drone and then gradually worked your way up as you started making money? Would be interesting to hear what you consider the "minimum starting position", both in terms of equipment and qualifications. Thanks!

Vey well explained video. We work on Government projects in India related to urban planning and topographical survey is usually a start point at it. I was always skeptical about drone survey as they may not be cover the physical attributes like ravines, temples, temporary shed, etc below the tree canopies. Hence we are used to combining the Drone survey with Total station survey. But as you said LIDAR is able to offset the problem of tree canopy by mapping the physical attributes below it, makes it really interesting. Can you mention what would be the comparative cost of performing a Total Station vs. LIDAR vs. Aerial +Total station, some hint like is it three time or fours times of Total station ?
