Colts D's ranked 28th or something, and got to deal with Trevor and Stroud every year. Makes sense, try to upgrade your pass rush, maybe get a DB tomorrow.
@ericeast80976 ай бұрын
Cooper DeJean still in the board. Let's go! And if we miss him there are still guys that fit our system very well. We didn't need a shutdown CB as much as we need an elite Edge rusher. An elite Edge rusher makes the entire secondary better. Generally speaking, passes under pressure aren't as accurate compared to when they have all day to throw.

Exactly while Colts were top 5 in sacks they were near the bottom of the league in pressure rate. So, I definitely do like this pick.

Another bad Ballard draft. If you knew what he was doing since we've drafted defensive ends by the handful since he started as general manager and he is yet to hit on any of them

This guy is the best edge in the draft, why are people doubting this?
@BlazingAce206 ай бұрын
Because a neck injury is like an ankle injury. It has a chance to happen again. Most teams wouldn't take the chance because the pros are different from college. Stroud got lucky last year because most of the players aren't like past players but this next season will be different. Most players train and adjust and learn from their mistakes from last year. Just keep an eye on this guy. He might be a superstar.

As a Colts fan I loved this pick. Finally someone that can (hopefully) get to the qb consistently. Good coverage guys.
@jshumphress136 ай бұрын
I loved it too. I think the CBs are a little overrated this year. We haven’t had a impactful pass rush since Freeney and Mathis. Plus, we picked due to production and not traits while hoping the guy develops. That’s our usual move, and it hasn’t really worked.

Bold pick as #1 defensive player, but if the medical staff gave it the okay, I’m not concerned. With K.Paye & D.Odeyingbo on contract years, they needed to be ready for the future.

Colts have Flowers coming back ….Brents/Jones with a year of experience under their belts…. The secondary isn’t too shabby. Throw in a better pass rush and it’ll look even better. Enter Latu.
@ericeast80976 ай бұрын
Chris Collinsworth is wrong. By selecting Latu the Colts are not saying they think he is the best defensive player... they are saying he is the best team fit player and at the position of most need. We've needed an elite pass rusher for years. We can get a great CB in the 2nd or 3rd still. Cooper DeJean is still on the board and we can use a S as well as a CB. DeJean fills both needs. Will he fall to 46? Maybe not, but anything is possible. This draft went 14 picks without a defensive player being drafted after all.
@eaglewings17886 ай бұрын
Colts could probably still get a good/solid CB in the 2nd but most likely a great one. If they want De Jean they will need to trade up for him.

Secondary has less pressure on it if you are getting consistent pressure on the QB. Do I love the pick? Actually, yes. Colts broke franchise records in sacks last season while blitzing among the least in the NFL. You've got Stroud and Lawrence to deal with, each twice a year. Latu improves the pass rush but also encourages guys like Dayo and Quity to step up. You could argue the Colts had bigger needs elsewhere. But those needs are also lessened with a strong pass rush. Don't gotta worry about coverage if the QB can't throw.

Not to mention Latu was a lot younger than Manning when he had his done so he has a better chance of his body bouncing back than what Manning did & we see how good it turned out for him

With Stroud and Lawrence getting rid of the ball within 2 seconds, not grabbing a cornerback in the top 3 rounds will have Ballard saying the same thing year after year. That's on me...I thought these guys would step up and that Kenny and Blackmon would be better mentors and leaders. Hopefully Latu would be great and great really fast. But I know this secondary is going to suck like they have for the past couple of years. Kenny is washed up and Blackmon is not that good. Stroud and Lawrence will eat up the defense and their defenses have improved this offseason. Richardson has so much pressure on him, and the guy has barely played football in his life. You have the weapons and O line protection. It's time to step it up, no excuses. I think Richardson and the secondary will be the excuses Ballard will fall on come at the end of the season press conference. I hope Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II will be our starting safeties and we can trade Blackmon for a draft pick before we lose him and get nothing in return

@@mikeymendez7060 Name the player “Marginal height and frame is nearly maxed out. Hands are more active than strong -- could play with more pop and power. Overpowered in the run game and ground up by double teams. Gets snared and controlled by bigger, longer blockers. Not a two-gap player. Has some tweener traits -- lacks ideal length and bend to play outside.” That’s Aaron Donald weaknesses on his draft profile. Colts have spent years drafting based off RAS and where has it got them?
