I was the original Design Director for this fantastic transformation! Glad to see that that the planning and exhibit design which Bjorn Kemper and I developed is being realized. Big shout out to our friend Mandy Bender for getting the job done!

Great update. I'm amazed at how extensive the renovations are. Sad to be missing out on the museum this year but exited for my 2025 visit already! 😎

I've always loved the museum, so many cool cars and artifacts, and this renovation really looks like it is going to enhance the ability to see the cars, mounting them up off the ground and such, and better tell the stories of all the stuff. And the 'classroom' is a great idea, I'm in favor of anything that makes it easier to allow teachers to take field trips there and create the next generation of 500 fans you know. That's my selfish take at least!

Grew up in Indy, been there several times. I’ve only done 1 tour and that was in the late ‘70s so no brick kissing! That would be so cool!

I still think saying "Drivers, start your engines" is wrong. It should be like Mari Hulman George said it, "Lady(s) and gentlemen, start your engines." It just sounds much classier. Plus, until the hybrids come out for next year's 500, it isn't actually the driver who starts the car in the first place, as they have had external starters for decades, so it's actually a crew member who starts it.

Besides recognizing the construction manager NEED to mention/give credit to the design team (architect, engineers, exhibit & graphic designers, etc.)!

Doug, I know the tradition of the banking is nine degrees, twelve minutes, but according to the newspapers OF THE DAY, when the track was being built, the banking is actually 18 degrees, 42 minutes. Anyone can see it's not nine. Milwaukee (a notoriously flat track) says THEIR banking is nine degrees, so compare the two. All you need to do is take one of those engineers down into turn one with their fancy computerized, handheld gizmos and measure it. And folks, just because Donald Davidson says it doesn't mean it's true. Nine degrees is a LEGEND, and I cannot find any contemporary sources during the building of it that say nine degrees. Check out "I Love to Make the Dirt Fly" by Carl Hungness. He has the actual newspaper quotes on the building and banking of the track in that biography of Carl G. Fisher. You'll be as surprised as I was....

Openning the basement to the public... how nice ... and what happens to those who paid 1000 dollars for life access to the old "secret" basement.

@@AustinShanks-n7e Nope it was 1000 15 years to 20 years ago.. it was for life. It started during the IRL era. Prior to that NO ONE could go down there. And I know about the 100 it was for one visit only. RP took over the speedway in 2020 he did some deals with the museum to open it up for 100 a visit. And I never paid the 1000 or the 100 either.

I like it except for the Penske area. There should not be an exhibit that permanently caters to one team. Having an area that alternates between teams and drivers is cool, but this feels like it’s just Roger Penske stroking his ego.

I agree. I liked all the historic cars of champion drivers and their artifacts displayed in era groups on the main floor next to each other. This looks to be more of a Disneyesque arcade than a museum. Getting rid of the skylight was the only thing that made sense in this video.

I visited the IMS Museum in 2018 and was underwhelmed. The Indy 500 stuff was great. My problem is no other event ever held on the speedway is acknowledged to have happened. Schumacher, Rossi, Gordon, Hamilton, Stewart, Marquez, Earnhardt, etc. do not exist in this museum. Why would you not include these legendary drivers and their historic wins??? During the video Mandy makes the ridiculous statement "We only have one race day here". WHAT?? Is she not aware the track hosts three other high profile events every year? I hoped when Roger Penske took over, the full history of the speedway would be told but it seems the single minded obsession continues on.
