Sajid Chinoy Chief Economist JP Morgan on Indian Economy in this 1 hour Podcast / discussion, gives a very good overview of Indian economy and the next level challenges for India , which are mentioned as under : Weak consumption Continuing Unemployment / Job challenges Weak private investment Fiscal deficit being still quite high and therefore little fiscal space available, despite political parties promising many things free . Limits to Monetary policy ability to tackle inflation, especially food inflation. Higher than target food inflation Need for Labour Sector Reforms. Tariff issues and their impact on Manufacturing/ Exports . There is, however, little/ no discussion of Agriculture Sector challenges / Land Law changes. A good and balanced discussion includes some of the bright spots of the economy .The discussion has several economics/ technical terminologies. Chinoy has been a regular Indian Express columnist on economy . The Discussion format is interesting with the Express Journalist Iyer doing the questions and conducting the interview very well, and there are some audience questions at the end . The textile industry in maharashtra is languishing. We need to revive it and promote handicrafts . Create Public private partnership, in health care in rural areas, to stop migration. Agriculture and irrigation focus , to encourage youth to take farming.

For an average Middle-class urban family, inflation is more than 10 %. I wonder why the government does not survey and post inflation borne by this group of Indians?

The Modi government has sabotaged the sustainable growth built by Manmohan Singh. Our GDP grew by 2.83 times in dollar terms during Manmohan Singh's decade, while Modi could barely double it. The GDP per capita and FDI / FII inflow as a percentage of GDP also grew faster during the Manmohan Singh era than Modi could manage doing crony Capitalism.

The analysis doesn't sound balanced. He is painting a very rosy picture of the Indian economy and kind of dodging the responsibility of the current dispensation. As a lay person I do not understand the terminologies of economics as much as experts but it does look like white-washing.
