Shubhajit Roy, Diplomatic Editor of The Indian Express spoke about the Bangladesh Army playing a significant role in the country’s political history. Following the 1971 Liberation War, the Army intervened multiple times in politics. After the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, a series of military coups ensued, leading to prolonged periods of direct or indirect military control. Major coups occurred in 1975, 1977, and 1982, with various generals and military leaders shaping Bangladesh's political landscape. Even after democracy was restored in the 1990s, the military's influence persisted, notably during the 2007 political crisis when a military-backed caretaker government was established. The Army’s involvement has often shifted the balance of power and affected the nation’s governance and stability.

There is a huge difference between Bangladesh army and Pakistan army. Don’t make false claims. Except Hussain Mohammad Ershad, every time Bangladesh army came to rescue democracy in Bangladesh whenever any democratic leader tried to be an autocratic ruler. And it wasn’t Ziaur Rahman who killed Sheikh Mujib. It was Mujeeb’s minister Khondokar Mosthaq with army Chief Khaled Mosharraf. They even put Zia on house arrest then. If you can’t research properly then don’t make such videos.

@@waqif5527 publice perception about army is good. bd people dont trust police , RAB. they all helped hasina regime. killed countless students. but army refused to shoot at the students. the general is relative of hasina still he didnt listen to her. army did interfere back in 1970s and 1980s. but anymore. in 2007 they took power but held election very quickly in 2008. 2008 is probably the fairest election in bd. BNP is popular among the previous generations. the current generation brought the hasina regime down. they dont wanna see BNP. BNP and awami league is similar. they will loot bangladesh just like hasina regime. with few differences like not being a puppet of india and will lean heavily towards the western powers. other than that not much difference. the young generation wants a change in the dirty politics of awami league and bnp. awami league is gonna be very unpopular for the forseeable future.

@@waqif5527The Army is very popular among people, but it's not like people want the army to rule the country, instead people always have faith that the army will not go against people and will do something if any autocratic ruler arises and tries to dictate the country and the people. So for the last 7/8 years majority of the people wanted to army to intervene to topple Hasina regime when they became pretty sure that Hasina wanted to dictate them and will never arrange any fair election. But the army was totally reluctant to interfere in domestic politics and remained as a very disciplined force and was careful about their reputation as they used to play a great role in the UN peace keeping mission. Hasina increased the budget for the military and other privileges and put her loyal officers as the Chief of Army Staff. Previously in our history, the army interfered multiple times in internal politics. Last was in 2006/2007. But for the last 16 years the army had no influence in internal politics. But all political parties always believe that the army will support the people when it's needed. The reason of this faith came from the history. Especially because of the Army's role in the 1971 war and also In 1975 when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman eventually became an autocrat from the country's most influential leader, the army toppled Mujib's regime by surprise. So for these reasons BNP and other anti Awami parties always had faith in the army. But Hasina did a lot of things to bring a significant change, and made the army led by her loyal officers after she came to power in 2009. That's the reason why the army was silent even when the people were suffering for all these years. But like I said that the people have faith on the army, that's faith is the reason why the army was reluctant to shoot protesters although Hasina wanted them to do so. Another question is what do people think about BNP and other political parties? BNP was vastly popular once and still a choice for many people but the younger generation who brought this change and toppled Hasina's regime, they see BNP as a party which is similar to Awami League. So the younger generation wants an alternative and wants students who led the uprising to form a new political party and it seems they are going to do that within a short time. Also there were few islamic parties like Jamaat E Islami, the largest islamic party of the country, their popularity seems to have increased throughout the last few years. But still their acceptance is limited and they failed to introduce themselves to the majority of the people because of lack of progressive mentality. And the last question is about the Awami League's future. Right now It seems they don't have any future in this country anymore. All of their leaders fled the country and there's no chance of coming back because they are afraid of retaliation. Almost all of them were highly corrupted and accused of money laundering. So most of them surely have chosen different countries to live in. Right now there's no office of them, all of the offices are burned and vandalised by the angry people. So even Awani supporters and perpetrators have accepted the fact that they have to choose another party for the future.
