There's a lot of reasons why the driving age is low in some states and these aren't full licenses until 17. These are called driver's permit. There are lots of restrictions as well. Like not driving past a certain time at night and being unable to drive without a fully licensed adult in the car with you. Here are the 2 biggest reasons why the US has -18 drivers... 1- The vast rural areas with no public transportation of ANY kind. 2- You will notice many of the states with young drivers have a large agricultural presence. Many farmer's kids help the family and need to drive trucks or farm equipment on these roads. Fun Fact: In the US ALL farm equipment has the "right away" meaning automobiles (except for active emergency vehicles) must yield to them.

Same applies to Belgium. From 17 you can start practicing.(so need somebody who's had a licence for I think 7 years sitting next to you.) You can also get 30 hours of lessons and then you can drive alone but similar to you, not in the dark and some other restrictions. In short, the 18 is the official age for a full permit while the 14 years and 6 months is not.

Poland - love them! I grew up in a city just outside of Boston and use to attend Polish mass at Saint Stanislaus. Some mass in Polish with my mother who is Polish and can speak that crazy language. The point is that regardless of religion, which was positive for me, you can at least learn a lot by being respectful.

Not only is tobacco not legal until 21 in the states but a lot of states now tax tobacco so much it's almost impossible to afford it.

@jrmckim Indiana where I live is less than $1 tax. I just checked and 13 states have less than a $1 tax. Washington DC has the highest at $4.50 tax.

I quit smoking a while ago…even though we have no sales tax in AK, we have tobacco and alcohol tax. Last time I smoked, Marlboros were $10-$11 per pack. I think that’s awesome because most young people can’t afford to keep paying that, especially if they smoke a lot.

If you can be forced to fight in a war or even be allowed to make that life altering decision, you should be free to smoke or drink.

I'm 58 now. I remember as a kid when I was about 8 or 9. My dad would pull in front of the convenience store right in front of where the cashier would be. Give us the money on a shopping list and all that shopping list would be a beer and a pack of cigarettes. And snacks for us.

I'm 42 and would walk into the convenient store starting at 6 years to get Mom's cigarettes. Moore Light White 120's in a box, please.

Those states that drive at 14 are rural I guess they thought less people, but still it should all be at least 16 like the rest.

When I turned 17 in 1993, that was the legal age to buy cigarettes. It changed to 18 in 1994 and remained that age until President Trump raised the age to 21 during his presidency. Unfortunately I was a smoker for 20 years but thankfully have been tobacco free for 10 years now!!

11:16 I have to disagree with him on this one. He is neglecting the fact that a decent amount of families in the US live in generational homes. Where the entire family lives together because they prefer it not because of income or prices.

I think it is always misleading to compare budgets of any kind, especially military, in terms of nominal dollars. They should always be shown in price parity reflecting how much can be purchased for a given budget. A soldier, a rifle, or a ship of equal quality can be paid for much cheaper in one country than another.

Only in combination with resources. It applies to Russia but not say, Estonia. Estonia needs that American air defence and such, or Belgium needs those F-35's.

I hate that he didn't specify that. It's why I don't mind religious people here in Belgium. They'll have their say but they're frankly not crazy, unlike in the US. People who are certain tend to be problematic. Yea, there are people against euthanasia, social benefits for prostitutes and abortions, but they understand it's just their subjective opinion. Not something you push on people.

Hi ladies. Also, keep in mind that the USA is a car culture. We have kids learning to drive things like ATV's at 5 or 6 years old. We learn many driving skills early.
