As an American I love that part, "The sleeping giant was fully awake and would never sleep again." People worry that internal conflict will bring us down but if you look at our history, we have always had internal conflict since we were formed. What strengthens us is that if we are hit by an outside power we will all unite as one.

The interesting part about all of this is ironic where the population was isolationist, most of the population after the Spanish War leading up to WW1. Then WW1 happened and the country went very deep into isolation mode and WW2 hit and that was the breaking point.

@@alexandergrant-qq2lj The tech is sufficient to amplify differences and infighting beyond the historical norm, just as radio and TV made totalitarianism possible in the 20th century, so the past cannot predict our future. Besides, outside of the major issues of slavery and secession, Americans broadly agreed on most moral principles during the Civil War era; its what enabled national reconciliation afterwards. That common moral framework is gone, now.

A superpower is a country that can project strength on a global scale. From economy to military. The United States is the only country that can fight a sustained conflict on more than one front. It just so happens to be able to fight the whole of the planet if needed. 7 carrier fleets. Enough said.

Well, it's far more complex than that of course but the outcome is what matters. Note that the US rebuilt Japan in 10 years and Japan thrived as a nation far greater than any other country after WW2 in the 50's onward because of it. This was because of MacArthur and thankfully his knowledge of Japan, instead of subjugating.

Not just them, even before them, the Germans messed with Monroe Doctrine, and the British constantly messed with our boats. Oh, and the French tried to vassalize Mexico once, that didn't go over well with us. Basically, don't mess with our trade, our boats, or the Americas, and we will be nice, but anyone who messes with those things, will experience the FAFO.

After fighting had depleted the Allies gold reserves through trade with the US for everything they got the US held 2/3 of the world's gold reserves and the allies were on the brink of collapse. Any logical mind can now see the conclusion and how the US put the world on the dollar standard. That has been eroding over time and things change. They always change.

China is completely dependent on the US and has never been and will never be capable of standing on its own. There are both geographical and cultural reasons for this. Heck, we're seeing China's suffering phenomenal economic damage just from the US being slightly annoyed with it. It's "Trade War" with the US also caused significant harm to China but the US didn't even _notice_ that this trade war was happening at all back at the time.

Depending how you look at it, you can argue WW2 started in 1937 as that is when Japan started its invasion of China it just wasn't a global affair until other nations such as Germany & Russia started their invasion of Poland. But that depends on how you want to look at it.

Yah it would be better for them to just focus on economics and try to do peacekeeping with the UN and the US. India has built itself heavily on Anti-Colonialism, so they will probably pursue the more peaceful path to power.

Unless you want your tax dollars to go to 2 conflicts currently happening. We have such a weak leader right now and we're spending too much money on someone else's war. Too much problems at home right now for us to worry about someone else's home. That's the curse of being a superpower. Back in the 90s, I asked my history teacher why don't we just mind our own business? He summed it up perfectly, America is the richest and most powerful country, and if a country is being invaded and we sit there and do nothing and watch people die, how would the world look at us?

@@DroneStrike1776 Nah it's more than that, if we were to pull back, China would fill in the power vacuum, we'd eventually be checkmated. Peace is not a choice, you think hiding in America will lead to peace but it will not. There will be war, the question is, how powerful are we when it happens. The more powerful we are when war starts, in relation to the world, the less people we lose. We have a choice. It's either smaller wars with America on top, or bigger wars with America on the bottom, not controlling our own destiny or taking command of geopolitics leads to WW1/WW2 situations. I agree that the democracies we protect benefit more than we do, because if we were to abandon them, they'd get conquered in decades, while it would take probably a century for us to be under threat. But we'd live in a worse world, with us much weaker, and more vulnerable if China ever decides to attack us or start WW3. The two choices aren't peace or war. The two choices are strength or weakness. The ultimatum is, is the fight going to be on our homeland and all our allies have already been conquered and their resources absorbed by the radical empire threatening us, or is the fight going to be on the enemy's' homeland, with us being backed up by many allies. I'd rather it be the latter, I'm sure our allies would too, as they probably don't want to get conquered. Hiding in America will never solve anything, we must project power. Putting our head in the sand will only buy us time, eventually, the enemy on the other side of the ocean will knock on our door, like Japan did 80 years ago.

Geography plays a big part in our ability to be a super power. Along with being an absolute logistical nightmare when it comes to prepping for the sheer variety of climates, which ranges from rain forests and mountainous terrain to high desert and swamps we also have two large oceans that make invasion of North America an absolute mess.

All foreign wars before WW2 had been, for the US, largely unpopular and with very little support and effort put into it. Even the in the Revolutionary War. WW2 was the first time anyone, including America, saw what it could do when genuinely pissed off.

About the USSR, keep in mind that the territory referred to as "Russian" in the video was not Russian. It was numerous impendent countries that the USSR liberated from Germany only to keep for itself as conquered territory. That pretty much _is_ the USSR. Much of the current Russian Federation likewise was conquered somewhat recently.

The BIG problem for China: It's MAJOR advesary is its MAJOR customer. IF a conflict develops between the USA and China....the export flow of goods to the USA (and the $ flow back to China) will end. The Chinese economy is built on exports and exports manufactured with low cost labor. If the exports stop, the large number of Chinese workers, who do not make enough money to buy all those products that can no longer be exported, could cause a financial collapse of manufacturing in China. So it behooves China NOT to get into a conflict with the USA (over Taiwan, for instance) and risk economic collapse.

I personally am putting my betting chips that India is going to be a superpower in our lifetime, China had that possibility but the government ruined it in the last decade or so. There’s plenty of other factors, but if the Chinese get to that superpower status, it will be short, I say ~10 years. However, I see it more promising if India does become a superpower and is Americans would be happy to have the load lightened. While India still has a poverty issue, more manufacturing businesses are trying to make an economy that venue fits both parties, it will likely give India that middle class access that the population needs to improve their society. I also think a lot of American businesses are realizing there is more value working with other Asian countries like India cause 1) the labor is cheap but the products are made with higher quality 2) the government is more willing to work and compromise with foreign businesses 3) we don’t have to deal with the theft of innovation and products like we had with working with the Chinese. Every society has issues, but the last decade it looks like it’s the corrupt running the Chinese that makes it difficult to trust, India has a good balance of different people that not only would it be beneficial to partner with, but if they did take the role of superpower they have the moral character to be responsible. Meanwhile in the US we would like the chance to focus on issues at home, not as a way to ditch the world per de (though I am fed up with Europeans), but we are a nation that never wanted this role in the first place. Our founding fathers created this nation to separate ourselves from the world, while we find ourselves in a spot that we’ve somehow managed to become the most influential country to have existed, the average person feels like they are getting the short end of the stick. Anyways, many Americans are becoming more aware the potential the Indians have and I really hope we shift to try to strengthen our relationship with India. The Indians who do immigrate to the US tend to be the top demographics in the US to succeed, both immigrants and naturalized citizens. One thing I am looking forward to is the potential to work together with innovation and science, the US has a strong support for funding these researches, we like to invest in projects that helps society advance. There’s been many Indians who have been a part of that and it just makes me wonder how India has an untapped society that could help the nations prosper. So many Americans are cheering for India to get to the point that the country blossoms and reveals their potential.

Yep, I have heard that India will reach at least 7-8 Tril by 2030, which is pretty good. I think by 2050 they will for sure be an economic superpower. Military depends on many other factors though.

Super Power I think primarily applies to ones political and military power across the global, at least that is how I define a Super Power. As the world has grown, and more parts of world have joined the international community, what defines "Power" in such a world has also grown. What was needed to be a super power in the 19th Century, isn't the same as what defined a super power in the 20th century.

When I was in University, I was always incredibly impressed with student folk from India, in both their intellectual capacity; and their friendliness. Towards me, and their feelings about America in general. Yes, WW2 was the last turning point and once the nuclear bomb was created there were no competitors. However, today we have a more complex situation militarily due to the presence of others who have the bomb, and economic considerations like the move of manufacturing to China which was a mistake. The US has been assaulted by China and other rivals by other forms of attack, such as changing the patriotism and educational system by taking advantage of soft policies of employing those who preach that America is bad and we should resort to socialism or communism. With a tarnished education system young people are dumb enough to hate their own country. This is the biggest threat, from within, and the only way one can defeat a superpower.

1) The US was already a financial superpower after they passed China around 1890 with the world's biggest GDP. 2) A Superpower has absolutely been defined for a long time! It's known as the 4 spheres or 4 pillars of power: 1) Economic 2) Military Strength 3) Political Influence and Alliances 4) Cultural/Religious Influence 3) What other countries think does not make a superpower, it's makes a paper tiger (Russia) or greatly underestimated power (Ukraine) 4) Japan WW2 - No idea what he is talking about, Japan was already at war with China in 1937, had nothing to do with Western Colonization, but rather expansionism & resources, they wanted to rule the world. The US placed oil sanctions on Japan after they invaded China, and this was the underlying reason they attacked Pearl Harbor. 5) The USSR "buffer zone" was more like a bunch of communist dictatorships, their citizens had no rights and did not favor the USSR, they feared the KGB would make them disappear if they spoke out against it. 6) The countries that favored the US in Europe did so freely, they didn't have a gun pointed at their head, they were democracies. The loved America, the UK and the Allies for saving them from the Nazis.

This American knows the potential for India to be a superpower is absolutely possible. What the U.S. would desire from India is for India to take the role of guardian of freedom of navigation for commercial vessels in the Indian Ocean. This we’ll help the U.S. by freeing us up and India can assert its dominance over China in that ocean. China at this time cannot project power that far away, but it’s working on it. Therefore it is necessary for India to become a great military power on its own, because it will be challenged by China.

@@b.ballooon9225 I think northern Nigeria is going to destroy that country's potential, both economically and politically, and in terms of the timing of a demographic transition (India has largely timed theirs correctly, China screwed up by aging before they could become rich). Poland will be okay, but they are not in a demographic position to become more powerful than they already are, so their ceiling is that of a capable middle-tier power).

Agreed on China. Their demographics will not allow them to achieve superpower status. Due to years of CCP repression, the nation as a whole lacks in innovation. They will never be a superpower. Oh and without the U.S. Navy, China is incapable of protecting its own shipping beyond its own shores. Bye Bye globalization when the U.S. Navy steps back, and the U.S. is stepping back. India, on the other hand, will have the ability to power project and will dominate the region.

As an American, if we mess up our status, it will be India that will need to pick up the pieces. Because of democracy, demographic and institutions based on British common law if the world has to fly away from the US. India is next in line. Two post British Imperialist countries, gaining their independence and running the world system has a nice ring to it

One difference between my country and China is our people. We CHOOSE to support things, they are FORCED to. We vote in free elections between two or more candidates, they have one choice only. We will stand up and fight against what wrongs us and will face fair justice for those actions; the Chinese have citizens who disagree and then disappear forever (the doctors and journalists who first found COVID and tried to spread the word as an example). A superpower is only as strong as its peoples’ will and determination.

A true superpower is a country that has no real competition economically, diplomatically, or militarily within its sphere of influence (which today would have to be a global sphere of influence). A true superpower also has a society with a high standard of living and a strong pervasive culture. In the west there have only been 3 true Superpowers: Rome, Britain, and the United States. A potential superpower is a country that meets some of the above qualifications but still has a country that rivals it in at least some areas. Then there are Great Powers, Regional Powers, and Minor Powers.

They probably need to solve some social issues, improve their infrastructure, and modernize their military. I think they have been trending upwards constantly since they got rid of the British. As a nuclear power, other countries are going to think twice before invading.

The sheer number of people alone is not a problem. The problem comes when the population is too large compared to the systems and resources at hand. For example, China's population has always been a key to it's strength while currently, the Philippines are struggling badly. This is because the Philippines are tiny compared to China in regards to infrastructure, organization, and resources relative to population. Also, I believe the video is technically incorrect when it said China had the highest population. I believe India has recently surpassed it. But India is a large country with large amounts of resources, a growing economy, and the foundation for strong, stable systems with none of the issues arising from China's autocratic Communist system. If it's social/economic hurdles are overcome, then India is definitely capable of becoming a superpower. The population, while a grave responsibility and challenge, is also a massive source of opportunity.

The US will probably remain a superpower for decades more short of a civil division of the population due to tension of beliefs and Ideology. I don't think at this point unless most of the worlds greater powers united could the US really lose in an actual military confrontation that actually used a sizable amount of its military and while China is right behind the US economically, it appears to be stagnating a bit. only a full blown civil crisis or even war are the only things that could probably take the US down at this point in time. Maybe a few more decades would have to pass for it come into full question at the moment.

While never underestimate your opponents and any victory can come at times, people just don't understand how powerful the US economy and military is, plus having a I've advantage of being the only real military power in the western hemisphere of huge note goes a long way to ensure infrastructure keeps pumping equipment. It would be very very difficult to take the US in an all out war

The unfortunate part is India has a history of being a natural actor for its own benefit. This has worked in favor for India in the short term, but leaves nations and their populations a little befuddled whenever they make choices that only benefits India in the now rather than India in the future. If Chna becomes a super power itll be a very short period of time where theyll remain a super power. In the medium and long term I can see India becoming a super power. With smart development, improvements in infrastructure, more international investment going into India and most importantly adopting stronger stances on international events and opening itself up to the idea of military alliances/defense-pacts it could easy have a future as a super power. It just needs to learn from other countries on how to deal with the possibility of demographic collapse which China currently faces. If it can avoid that and adopt a stronger voice in international affairs along with opening up to the idea of alliances, India would be destined to become a super power (if it was in a military alliance or defense pact with the US it could over time it could have the same relationship the UK and US has but with India and the US, which would mean India having the same technological advancements as the US and with its larger population it aka larger workforce, it could easily have an economy twice as large as the US)

I would like to see peace across the planet. But, if there needs to be a superpower, I would want it to be democratic and supportive of freedom. The USA has some political issues right now that should terrify all people seeking freedom. There are only 2 major political parties in the USA, and one of them has taken an authoritarian direction (Republicans). If there are only going to be 2 major parties, they both must be dedicated to freedom. Also, helping and bringing other countries into the democratic and prosperous fold is essential. The world does better when all do better.
