The ironic thing this that they don't show this show on UK TV, because the powers that be thing it's offensive...yet all the foreign people that have watched the show love it. It was the top rated show when it was originally shown.

I remember this one, it's very funny, spoiled by over sensitive people eager to be offended on other people's behalf... I'm glad to see it's understood to be comedy, thank you.

Ali (from Pakistan) was played by the actor Dino Shafeek, who was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also played the Char Wallah in It Ain’t Half Hot Mum.

TBF Dino Shafeek was born in 1930, long before Partition. And Bangladesh was East Pakistan from 1955 to 1971. Dino emigrated to the UK in 1958.

The antagonism between the Sikh and Pakistani characters is hilarious. Haven't seen this show in years and I'm glad you guys reminded me of it. Subscribed.

Nemaste. Ali was my favourite too as a child, I loved this programme, I think its humour still works, it's silly. Everyone is a stereotype but its not nasty, the English stereotype is the Principle/Head Mistress, the woman who is a bit stern and reserved! Por Favor is Spanish.

The ITV Network had to cancel this show, 18 Million Viewers every week, between 1977 and 1979 because they thought it was insulting to make Fun of Nationalities, it took them 3 years to come to this decision, so stupid.
@finncullen5 ай бұрын
They didn't cancel it, it came to the end of its natural lifespan, some of the original cast had left and ratings were dwindling. Not everything is a culture war.

Was brilliant when it came out, still brilliant imho, so glad you think the same unfortunately it was cancelled due to over sensitive idiots being offended for other people, most of who were not offended and thought it was funny . My school friend he was of Indian decent and and another school friend of African decent thought it was hilarious .

I work with 3 Nepalis guys, Im Irish/British, One speaks very good English, one Speaks just about understandlable English and the other barely speaks English, they are great at their jobs cleaning etc but its like this show, every time we work together one has to translate for the other if they dont understand me and then it has to be translated back to me so I can understand them.

This brings back great memories from 1970s TV in the UK. In other episodes there was a Hindu lady who had to stop the Sikh man and the😅 Pakistani man from arguing and fighting! One time, the Sikh man grabbed a knife and ran At the Pakistani man! At times it was hard to watch, despite being funny, because it was 'too close to the bone', as the saying goes.

I am sure I saw a video on here once that rated this show as the worst sitcom in human history. Indicative of how the British are or were racist. Along with love thy neighbour etc. I bet if you looked up on KZbin the 10 worst British sitcoms mind your language would be number one.
