Wishlist Lumbermill on Steam here!

This week I've changed the way the forest is generated, and employees will rest when they are overworked among other features! This will pave the way for the forest to dynamically change as the game is played.

I'm working on the soundtrack alongside the game, and all music in the background of these videos is from the soundtrack.
Videos will be uploaded every Friday as development progresses so make sure to subscribe.
Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions in the comments, I'd love to hear them.

I'm glad you didn't go with the "new" art style. The stylised look you have been rocking looks a million times better, and I think it'll hold up better in the long run. It's kinda like how games which try to achieve realistic graphics don't look that great a couple years later. The realistic look of the trees kinda made them seem blander more than anything. Lovin the vids, keep up the good work~!

I like with how you came up with the method for aging trees. Impressive!

For the z effects it would have been much easier to use unity’s particle system

the dithered trees look like obelisks.

Please make the floating Z effect slower. It's a bit to fast I think because now it's looking like the lumberjacks rush to sleep fastly. Good work for now🖒 Keep on doing!

Instead of the way you averaged tree age could definitley be much more easily acheived with something known as "Perlin noise", it looks something like a fogscreen and can be used to have smooth "clumpage" of tree age. It could also be used to change the way trees are distributed, and you could use the same noise map to do that.

While I could have used perlin noise, that gives me quite limited control over the parameters in comparison. I can scale and offset the noise but that’s about it, whereas here I can still use cellular automata for tree position and get consistent results for tree age.

You should make a cheat code that allows you to change the forest generation percentage/difficulty, allowing it not just to be 35%

Why don't you use perlin noise to generate tree age?
@BWDev
@BWDev 4 жыл бұрын
Because this way I can create age gradients that only apply to the clumps of trees, perlin noise would be fine if the entire map were covered in trees - this is a simpler way of taking those clumps into account.

@@BWDev Oh - I guess that makes sense, although you could do another thing: First, check for "islands" or groups of trees, then apply different perlin noise data to each one of them.

Why didnt you use your perlin noise with a higher threshhold for generation of older trees? :o

You could increase the veriaty with normal maps and pixel per pixel lighting. Would take a lot of work though

why do you get progressively more quiet with every new video? i'm watching the playlist and i've had the volume on 100% since a few videos now to hear you at all...
