I think in all fairness to the DJ had only heard the album once. Must admit I have always thought that Martin and Dave's voices are very similar. Especially on the early Depeche albums. 🧐

Maybe not so much now, but It used to be difficult. I thought for the longest that Martin sang ‘Only When I Lose Myself’ I must’ve played the song 100x before I realized it was Dave because I didn’t think his voice was even capable of hitting those notes. While I’m at it it took a couple listens to ‘Sweetest Perfection’ to realize it was Martin cause he was singing so much lower than normal. If you’re not a longtime fan, you likely can’t recognize the natural Vibrato in Martin’s voice that Dave lacks which could make it confusing.

What a charming and generous man. Clearly a shy person and quite self-effacing, it is hard to believe that their canon of work stretches back over forty years and that he is so "un-jaded" (sorry, not a word but I hope descriptive enough to give me a pass on that). For a real sense of what 40+ years really looks like, may I recommend their Hammersmith Odeon concert from 1982 (available on KZbin.)

It's great to see Martin so happy. This interviewer has had an impression on him. Love these guys and glad to see such an increase in attention. I discovered DM when I was 15 and Everything Counts was the latest single. I had to buy the album Construction Time Again immediately. The following year I saw DM live at Wembley and remember to this day how live was so different to studio output, but the vibe was electric. To this day, I have seen so many artists and bands but no one does a better all inclusive gig than DM. I was fortunate to See Dave Gahan & the Soulsavers at the London Coliseum back in 2021 playing to only 2,500 audience and the vibe was still there! Shaking hands and talking with Peter Gordeno a very surreal moment. He, like the rest of the band, really nice people. Looking forward to Twickenham, where I will be in the golden circle! The album is class. I'm so glad it has been approved by so many. Back in 1983 when I started to listen and like them, I was in a minority!

It’s because his step father died at 61 and his biological father died at the age of 68 so it gets you thinking. If you’re the child of a parent who died prematurely and you then hit the age that they were when they died, it puts things into a different perspective. When you turn the age they were when they died you suddenly realize that they had hopes and dreams; you try and compare your world view with theirs and what they might have wanted. When you make it to the next year and the year following that and you’ve outlived your parents and you’re now living years they didn’t get to. It is psychologically really heavy. If you’ve lost a parent, you’ll understand what I’m trying to explain and doing a poor job. Outliving your parents and hitting those landmarks in your life make you question your life. Where you’ve been. What you’ve done and where you’re going. You also start to wonder if you’ll only get as much times as them and what will you do if you outlive them by longer than you expected. It’s complicated. Like everything.

As a longtime admirer of The Psychedelic Furs, apart from "Don't say you love me", I find the 4 Gore/Butler co-written tracks to be really quite underwhelming. There are much better songs on Butler's 2006 self titled debut solo album.
@MisAnnThorpe
@MisAnnThorpe Жыл бұрын
@@shawnhossini3321 The mere fact that Richard Butler co-wrote 4 songs on this album would clearly suggest that even Martin Gore feels he needs help. I mean, come on, the best song on "Spirit" was a Gahan composition; "Cover me".

It's wrong to say it's a return to form because IMO this band have NEVER been off form. Maybe sounds of the universe was the only one where the odd track was a bit meh. I've always liked Lana as a dj but this interview is not her best. Could they not have had someone who actually knows DM do this? And if not, she should have done her homework. She's interviewing a music legend & her questions show she not only doesn't know the difference between Dave & Martin, but doesn't know enough to properly reference & compare new & old material. Do better Indie88.

@D T Day According to the April issue of Mojo magazine, Gore claims never to have had any of the faith of the "bible bashing" Andy Fletcher and Vince Clarke. Nothing Depeche Mode have produced from "Some great reward" to the present day gives me any reason to believe that he is in any shape or form a Christian. I would suggest that the track "Crowly" (Aleister Crowley) from his "MG" solo album, better hints at his "belief system"!
