Only a pick, but when you get to a certain level you can pick out the melody in addition to the rythm with just one guitar and a pick

He's just really good. If you've been playing for a while you get to a point where you can get that sound...

Germán Vicencio L. i thought the same thing, especially at the beginning. i even watched it twice and i don't see him picking that stuff at the start, He's is really good, but he's tends to play sloppy, but that's one of the things I love about his playing - that and his use of echo and delay on acoustic guitars. I prefer the randomness of his echo over the crap U2 has been churning out for decades ,but that's just me....

et720 At 0:36 you can clearly see that the strumming (rythm) is different from the picking. I'm pretty sure he used a looper or something

It's possible but difficult. Looks and sounds like he strumming on the down strokes and picking out individual notes on the up strokes with down/up strum sections in between. There's also a few hammer-ons where he's fretting the notes only rather than picking them.
