The Xaréu is a marine fish of the Carangidae family, known for its tasty meat and popular in northeastern Brazilian cuisine. It is found in tropical and subtropical waters, both in the Atlantic and the Pacific, and is a species highly prized in sport fishing due to its strength and speed. The jack has a silvery, slightly flattened body and can reach considerable sizes. In the Northeast, especially, it is common to see it in fish markets and in typical dishes of the region, such as moquecas and grilled meats.
