I have been intrigued by Indigo from Childhood not only of its colonial and political aspects being from the Bengal part India subcontinent... But also as a printmaker i am facinated how indigo works as a dye, and everytime i learn that there is so much more to learn and experiment with this amazing leaf dye. Wow! Such a clear explanation, especially combined with real-time dyeing. I appreciated the “blue jeans “ analogy for extraction and the constant reminder that indigo dyeing is primitive and can be done simply. Being able to witness the problem solving was also very helpful!

Thank you for this info, most appreciated ❤ The green powder you started with was that the same green indigo powder used for hair dyeing? I bought some Green Indigo Powder from Dekel Dyes and I use it as she advises, with just salt and a very small amount of water to scrunch the silk in the mixture with my hands and turns a pretty green. But I have not tried to heat it in water to get blue. Very interesting.

Wonder if indigo is related to indica .indian blue . wonder if indica was an origin name of the canabis variety with the blue leaves /kark green /black/purple . Not just wide leaved variety. Afghans had a wide keaf awel as thin leaf .afganica . Looks lije the blue and dark strains cane from india or i mean through india possible to afghanistan and probably from china by its geniologucal record. So all you landrace seed hunters i would look to india for your blue leaf strains maybe especially for its rooot origins .maybe possibly china if thetes evidence to sugest a dominant dark leaf cultuvar strain. Just saying the word indigo has more than just a word going for it.

@@katylecocq4746 j utilise un procede simple avec les feuilles d isatis, que j ai nomme broye-seche: on broie fraus et on seche immediatement, dans cet etat c est utilisable pour monter une cuve

He used both. First the indigofera tincoria and then the persicaria!
