After about 6-8 weeks depending on the time of year you peel or grind the cuffs of trim the foot and then apply another shoe

Great Question. Have you been in the shower or bath and the calluses on your hands start to become more transparent, white in color and become soft. Imagine then going straight to work building a rock wall without any gloves. The same type of experience can happen to a horse . When they live in a wet environment but have an abrasive surface say like a gravel turnout paddock, it can sometimes over exfoliate their sole, to the point of being extremely thin as shown in this video. It will be interesting to see how many blacksmiths start to see the benefits of also learning how to incorporate composite material into there practice. You are able to weld , glue , and manipulate the material much like steel just a different process. This purely my opinion, I believe that the horse appreciates it as well and has the composite line up of shoes can have many benefits.

I have my own business for 30+ years now . Yes I often work with the local vet hospital and veterinarians in my area . In this particular case the owner did the trimming and did not believe in steel shoes or nails . However her horse needed help from the predicament that they had created. So given the limitations on what materials I could use, this was one of the tools I have in my toolbox and it worked good enough. Could it been accomplished other ways , I’m sure of it . 👍

This pony had a case of laminitis that caused a portion of the hood wall to essentially disconnect from the lamina. Has the hoof grew out the disconnect wall was like a large hangnail . The owner I was working with was going everything the vet and farrier had recommended which is partially why this horse was able to make a great recovery.
