I'm am just an amateur plumber but I remember my (stationary engineer) father telling me, NEVER connect black iron to copper directly. You have to use a brass fitting in between or the copper fitting with the built in isolator to prevent pinhole leaks due to the dissimilar metals and galvanic reaction.

i like that big beast of a pressure tank on the well. i think my moms is like maybe 2/3 that size. larger tank larger drawdown less cycles on the pump, i think.

On the plus side I do like that you used a circulator instead of a zone valve to feed the tank. I also prepare the male adapters the same way. What I don't care for is reducing the pipe size to the tank, it should have 1" pipes. I would have cut in a tee on the existing return. I use a 1 1/2 x 1 black tee under the heating circulator. The 30 psi relief valve is supposed to be mounted vertically. I also turn the low limit down at low as it will go and feed the heating transformer with the normally closed side of the new circulator relay. You commented on the flue pipe it should not be reduced I totally agree. They may have a 6" stainless liner in there, but you didn't comment on the draft damper being in the wrong location. Nice clean work other wise.

Couple of observations. Why not put a piece of clear tubing in your purge hose so you can see the air bubbles. Also, have you considered getting a cordless inflator to use on the expansion tanks and not drag down that heavy compressor.

So I have a tankless oil boiler like the one in the video. Runs hot water for me and the wife ( water doesn't last long obviously) and also is use for baseboard radiant heat in the winter.. obviously oil prices always fluctuate so I'm trying to find a better solution for showers even if I have to only use oil in the winter or have a indirect hot water tank connected to this existing boiler..

It funny there 2 cold water presser reducers in the supply. I have the same back flow an presser reducer as the one you added the drop pipe on to an turned it around so the over presser outlet faced down.. it both a presser reduced to 12psi as well as a one way check. You dont need that 2nd one with the leaver on.. you can opeb that leaver to get full psi but the one you added the drop pioe to cuts the psi to 12 psi any way. I had that valve fail an no water to the boiler .. it factor set to 12psi you cant ajust it.

Hey Steve I gotta question. Is there a reason you piped the supply for the indirect from the port where the relief valve was instead of the supply to the baseboards of the house? I'm asking because most time when I see plumbers install an indirect they usually pipe off the supply to the house. A previous plumber might have left a tee with a plug so another plumber in the future can pipe off that line.

Damn, you are a Rocket Scientist ! You really know your stuff ! We have plenty of cold pressure, but hot is like a pencil size coming out of all faucets. We called the installer( new boiler 2 years ago ) and he said our warranty just expired. You may need to replace the coil ! I said, what ? ! The original boiler was 30 plus years, and now this new junk goes bad in 2 years ? I was pisssed ! He came and tried to sell us more ad- ons and expensive options. I told him to take a walk. We will never call him again !!! Now we have to find someone like you ! Damn! Hard to find and Honest Lawyer, painless Dentist and a great Plumber ! We need help. But from where. We asked all the Saints for help, but so far no signs have come. We wait !

No Isolation valve on the back side of the pump means draining the tank to replace or service the pump or seals

You would not be draining the whole tank but draining the coil on the boiler side of the system. The domestic hot water would be the storage tank side.

Coming out the unit you should not connect black pipe to copper. Best to use dielectric or brass transitions

It’s not a freshwater application. All it will see is recirculated boiler water with no entrained air. So no corrosion.

If I was to purchase and single zone switch relay, like the one you mounted there .... so if can get the wiring down.... Line voltage 110v Hot to 1...neutral to 2..and then neutral to circulator.. then neutral to where? Then 3 to circ... Then 4 to ZR... also where did you piggy back line voltage from ????

Looks like he took power off the boiler aquastat, appears to be 3 conductor cable. If you use a different relay the terminals will likely be different but they come with wiring diagrams.

Our tank-less coil in our oil fired boiler could never keep up. So I added a SuperStore tank. Best move I ever made. We never run out of hot water and it's WAY cheaper than adding a 40 gallon electric tank that a bunch of people suggested.

It looks like you have the water heater circulator wired to run anytime the the main boiler circulator pump isn’t running. If the hot water tank isn’t calling and the zone valve is closed isn’t that just wasting power? I’m probably just confused on the wiring

There is an aquastat on the indirect which is connected to the relay which turns on the circulator for the tank as well as sending power to the aquastat on the boiler making it fire up.
