The term of Viceroy used after 1857 Mutiny and first Viceroy of India was lord Canning and before it Charter act 1833 India's first Governor General was William Bentick. But You r right both are same because after 1857 power of India transfer from company to crown. .... Good Sir ..👍🇮🇳🇵🇰..I am Indian History student

Governor General of Bengal was the initial rank. The rest 2 presidencies that is Madras and Bombay had their respective Governors. After Charter Act 1833 the rank Governor General of Bengal was converted into Governor General of India. Later after the "Good Governance Act" of 1858 (after the mutiny of 1857), Governor General was turned into Viceroy.

Post of secretary of state was created in 1858, and at that time there was no post of governor general. Post of gg was upgraded to viceroy.

Basically, East india company came to set up industries because of low cost wage workers in addition to the traditional indian clothing and spice They also used to buy crops bcz of the fertility of indian soil and were mostly engaged in products such as Cotton, silk, indigo dye, salt, spices, saltpetre, tea, and opium Hope it helped! Good. Sir Princely state tu GG Administer nahi karta tha..They are directly controled by king or Queen. In my opinion jab wo Princely states ky kuch problems etc before queen/king krta tu is waja sy ws ko Viceroy kaha jaata tha.
