Mangrove forests are finally being recognised more broadly as the absolutely critical habitat they are. Wonderful to see my neighbours to the north doing such good work! I saw this in Mozambique once. The fishermen and their whole village benefitted immensely! Not to mention the fixing of carbon. Has to happen across the tropics globally. Go Indonesia!

Mangroves provide environmentar services: - coastal protection - rich in nutrient - - > high primary productivity - nursery ground and feeding ground coastal and marine organisms - biofilter

We need to start planting mangroves all over the world to help fight the effects of climate change!

To replace the mangroves that was destroyed in the last centuries for ignorance. The most heavy urgency are the bangladesh. China and India are building Dams, and no more sand transported by the river. They need to build a great grean wall of mangroves, leting only to water ways between the sea and the basin, to not let the river stream to take out the few sand that last and will not be replaced by the river floods anymore.

I do hope that the water stay clean and healthy, since many of the factories there use river or sea as chemical dump. This fishermen need support. I wish them success.

I had the privilige of meeting Sri at the university of Diponegoro when I did my internship on mangrove seedling survival in coastal Demak. There are so many nature based solutions to problems that are now solved with chemicals or hard measures. If we switch to more integrated approaches we can really make a difference for the environment and wealth all over the world.

See this is to all those environmentalist (actually in dw video a couple of months ago) that said java northern coast is sinking because of groundwater extraction. Which isnt the case. This area are sinking because of abrasion. The people knew that is the problem that is why they tried to encourage sedimentation and planting mangroves.
@srirejeki82493 жыл бұрын
this area are sinking: land subsidence due to massive ground water extraction . Mangrove r green belt will provide coastal brotection
@abcddef21123 жыл бұрын
@@srirejeki8249 It is not groundwater extraction the majority of land subsidence of the area is caused by erosion. People cut down mangroves to turned into shrimp farm during Soeharto times.
@michelleilone2 жыл бұрын
The area that is sinking fast due to groundwater extraction is Jakarta. A different place than Demak which was discussed in the video. They are both located on the northern coast of Java, but quite a few hundred kilometers away from each other.

In more advance scientific studies about mangrooves plantation on any barren brackish areas , and it's recyclable procedures for consumption , these mangrooves can be harvested for many purposes leaving the dead stumps as well as there roots to be consumed by sea shell , snail ,and mainly the decopods family that rely most on the decaying roots of mangrooves , that help them grow faster and reproduce more because of the availability of food . After harvesting mangrooves , replanting is adviceable to be done . I've made this conclusion as I was studying in our brackish areas where decaying mangrooves roots beneath the ground were the main source of food for decopods , and other soil animals in the brackish areas which reachable by high tides

One important mangroove's contribution to environment is , it holds and retain the eroded soil from floods , even during high tides which brackish water turns milky due to turbulent push towards uplands that makes the retained muds to mounds gradually making it more firm soil compared to barren areas , it also protects coastal areas from typhoon strikes of

Most common problems on brackish areas is , it is the only passage ways from farmlands , which farmlands todays uses lots of toxic chemicals like herbecides , all purpose poison for irradicate golden cohol , this caused sectoral conflict that lead to contamination of these rivers that affects for declining of water population as eggs and fry are easily killed by heat pollution caused by chemical contamination

Indonesia’s fertility rate is actually 2.1~2.2. Very healthy for a society. Credit due to the authoritarian dictator Suharto who actually enacted Planned Parenthood, not by coercion but by education and local clinics.
