Medan is mostly a base for tourists going to Lake Toba, a little to the South. The Medan airport is really close to the Kuala Lumpur one, about 45 min air time and there are a lot of daily flights. Otherwise Medan is a city where you can see how average Indonesians live without the overwhelming crowds and traffic of Jakarta. Prices are lower than in tourist spots like Bali or Java as well as Jakarta.

I recommend you to visit Karo highland sir.., it isn't far away from Medan, about 2 hrs by car. You'll meet Batak Karo tribe and their land so wonderful too..you'll find some similarity things between them and some Asia's mainland tribes / people especialy the Dongson culture in Vietnam, your beloved country . Some of western part of Indonesia people have austro asiatic from Yunan ( southern China ) and austronesian ancestors ( from Taiwan ). Thank you very much sir..stay healthy..🙏🙏
