I am a proud villager from East Java, first interaction with european when I was around 9-10y.o in the remnants of Mojopahit temple on the slope of Penanggungan Mountain. The fruits you're asking about is palm coconut, which is the main commodity from Sumatera. It is not edible directly, but it can be processed to make cooking oil and butter. It ia also raw material for biodiesel.
