Y’all are so sweet! I’m enjoying my study of 1 John right now. It’s amazing how inductive bible study has changed the way I understand scripture. I love that it doesn’t depend on other people’s writings but it helps to let scripture define itself. This prevents you from depending on others who may be influenced by sin, the culture, false prophets, etc. Thank you for checking up with me! I will think about it. Right now I’m thinking about getting a journaling Bible and just filling it up, using colored pencils and coding the words to help find common themes. Any practical videos like that would be helpful. I know it’s something that’s highly individualized but it’s always nice to see how other people do it. Thanks! :)

hey Claire! so the program i'm using in the video on the screen with highlights, is called Logos. that one is a pretty in depth expensive resource, mostly used by pastors. For free, i love using blue Letter bible app as a resource for looking things up- but not necessarily highlighting and maintaining notes on a scripture passage (i don't think it does that). i really prefer my paper bible or printing it out and scribbling anyway. hope that helps!

Just found your channel and watched this and part 2). The app your using in this video; how did you create your highlights and study coding. That is something I struggle with with online Bibles. Your seems clear and precise and directly to the right, readily accessible to use in your highlighting of places, repeated words, etc. if willing, could you do a video on how you did that ( set up your “ legend “) Thank you in advance for any advice and how to.

1 John 2:20,27 KJVS [20] But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. [27] But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. Let the Holy Spirit teach you and avoid the doctrines of man. Ephesians 4:14-15 KJVS [14] That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; [15] But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

I bought "How To Study Your Bible" by Kay Arthur, David Arthur, and Pete De Lacy. It says to take the Bible literal. But what if it's symbolic or metaphor instead? With all due respect. I'm currently 47 and a half years old and I have adult ADHD too, which makes it difficult to remember much unless I'm using mnemonics. It was worse when I was younger, I was always in special ed classes and still had trouble sitting still and understanding too. I think I wasted most of my life not studying the Bible. Would it be better to listen to the Bible on cds?
@BranchTogether4 жыл бұрын
Listening is a great idea! And yes many part of the Bible should be taken literally, but you are exactly correct that some parts are metaphor, poetry or hyperbole.

Jenna (hope I have your name correct). I have been using something very similar to the OIA method for many years. My question is: If we all use a similar method of study, why do we arrive at different understandings?
@simonehannaf4 жыл бұрын
At the end or should I say beginning of our understanding is the holy spirit. He knows what we need to glean from the word and gives us accordingly as we need it according to our need, dept in Christ and were we nèed to go in life
@henryhodgens43124 жыл бұрын
@@simonehannaf I think you misunderstand my question. Maybe an example would help refine what I'm speaking about. What does this verse mean? 19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. (Gal 2:19) Using the OIA method and expanding the selected passages if you want. How do we make sense of this verse in context?

First and last true help to understanding His Word.... ASK HOLY SPIRIT! His Word is living, meaning He can show you different things for the same passage on different days. This book is unlike any other, it is Powerful, Love, Alive, and full of Promises for those who love Him. Not sure you know if you love Him? Keep His Commandments is what His Word says! Those who are led by His Spirit are sons! You can tell a good tree by its fruit. So to be His you will eventually start having fruits of the Spirit. Everyone else is just His creation, not concerning themselves with loving Him. And even if you think you understand ask Holy Spirit to guide you!

Enjoy reading the Bible. However, it should responsible to note The bible is a book mostly written by men who never even met the people they wrote about (many years after). It is also heavily edited and censored by a church that had a power and politics agenda, eliminating around 14 books (the Apocrypha). In addition, there isn't just one Christian bible - there are at least three with different numbers of chapters. There exists no provable, fact-based evidence to support any of the supernatural (spiritual) events in it. Thus, it is pure human belief - a human emotion and dependent on as many human thoughts as there are humans. To believe without factual evidence is like saying a court case should be determined by only hearsay or a feeling. It's hard to think God wouldn't hold humans to a standard that they hold themselves. ANYTHING supernatural or spiritual that is taken from the bible is hearsay, feelings, beliefs, hopes, and tales of imaginations, and not proven with evidence.
