The T1 trains found on the Toronto subway use the same traction motors, which are a variant of the traction motors found on the R110A experimental test trains that ran on the New York subway.
@OliversElevators Жыл бұрын
It’s not necessarily that they sound the same because they use the same traction motors; rather, it’s due to the fact that they use the same VF drive with the same PWM patterns. The motors simply act as speakers.

Amazing video! Thanks for sharing! I've been meaning to build a device to record these trains. I've lived in the Dallas area my whole life and enjoy riding these. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Dallas. Were you able to record the newer DART SLRV inverter sound? They make a unique "whistle/howl" I haven't heard elsewhere.
@ebaraexpress72604 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching this video! I totally enjoyed that DART light rail system, especially for the speed gaps between street running areas and rail-only areas. Yes, I also recorded that Toyo Denki IGBT one, so I'll upload it later.
@NTxRE4 жыл бұрын
@@yourgeekoftheweek DART has no immediate plans to replace them, but some cars have received the IGBT inverter upgrade as the GTO inverters naturally age out and fail.
Same sound as M1 Naples rolling stock (made by Ansaldo), Metro Catania M.88 trains (made by Firema, partly owned by Ansaldo at that time), and not refurbished TAF regional/suburban trains (made by Breda when it was already part of the same parent company of Ansaldo) in Italy. At the moment they're still around, but not for long: as I said TAF are being refurbished, and both metro Catania and Naples are getting new trainsets from 2022 which will eventually replace these older units.

@@akana_ You can see it from my website's “About” page. I use WaveTone for measuring frequencies. However that method can be used only for PWMs by triangle wave comparison method and for other types I'm just comparing with other people's analysis results.

Darn, I may even try this on Dutch trains. Anymore info on the inductor used and possible circuitry behind it before it is fed into a computer or lineair pcm recorder or something? Especially our ICNG (InterCity New Generation) trains have such a weird acceleration sound (it is a normal ramp-up sound, that then transitions to a way higher tone, still ramping up, to then switch back down to a lower frequency (but higher than on initial acceleration) Here's a recording made by someone else: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qILFZZSBqdJljpY
