Master Builders Australia CEO Denita Wawn says industrial relations is the “biggest inhibitor” for Australia to meet housing supply targets.
“We won’t hit the 1.2 million target; we think it will be just under a million,” Ms Wawn told Sky News Australia.
“Part of the reason why is industrial relations has sapped productivity out of our industry and we simply cannot meet supply.”

Productivity is low because the building industry has become almost entirely a sub contracting model and training is very very poor quality. Every new home is full of defects but things are so bad they have to look the other way or nothing gets built. Every trade constantly chasing mistakes throughout the jobs puts everyone behind and both time and material waste is at ridiculous levels. I spend all day battening roofs just shaking my head at the atrocious building practices but the truth is most of them don’t know any better because they were trained by people who did not care.

@@davepowelldrumz there certainly is but it runs much deeper than just dodgy work. Major builders paid off politicians to restructure carpentry training and dumb it down to the point we are at now. Almost none of the “carpenters” we have nowadays know the first thing about how to build a house and that keeps the big players free from meaningful competition then they pay to get immigration pumped so they have more demand. This has been happening for 40 years .

As they would principally be from non-English speaking countries, they fit the ALP (Labor) socialist left agenda by recruiting more voters.

It’s not industrial relations that’s the problem, you just want to do dodgy work, charge the consumer more and make larger profits so you can get fatter
