@@defaultHandle1110 In whispers dark, the fearful tongues do speak, Of artifice that stirs their minds so weak. A contrivance strange, of light and coded mind, Doth strike their hearts, though knowledge they can't find. "Beware," they cry, "the demon wrought by hand, That brings our end, commands the sea and land!" Yet ne'er have they, with patience or with care, Gazed within its workings, nor laid bare The truth that stirs beneath those unseen threads, Where not a soul nor wicked thought treads. 'Tis ignorance, their only trusted shield, A weapon sharp, their folly doth it wield. For fear, thou know'st, is oft the coward’s plight, That blinds the eye and darkens reason’s light. And so they rail, 'gainst phantoms they invent, Not knowing well the tool or its intent. O wouldst they stop, and with true heart inquire, What flames of knowledge spark in reason's fire, They'd see the art, not devil, born in clay, And cease their trembling in the face of day.

I mean, cursor composer is pretty sick man. It basically fixed all the problems with the previous generation of using LLMs for code gen
@indydevdan11 күн бұрын
I'm a big cursor fan. The AI Coding space is VERY contested though. They'll need to ship something differentiated to stay relevant through 2025/26. In this phase of GenAI, I recommend using one open and one closed source tool. For AI Coding I highly recommend Aider to fill in your open-source ai tooling.
@jaysonp942610 күн бұрын
@@indydevdan yeah it's super interesting I've never been a fan of Aider. I like that you use it well but I always run into issues and I don't feel like it has a good sense of larger code bases. Cursor is the first time where I've fully felt like I'M the bottlebeck in programming, not the information or debugging.

This is crazy, I just showed ChatGPT this diagram and I said if you don't figure it out I'll tell you what it's about. It nailed it. Here is the response: The image depicts a conceptual framework illustrating how AI tooling enhances the role of engineers or developers in the future. 1. **Ingest Phase (Left Side)**: - The engineer collects data and inputs from various sources: - Databases - Codebases - Documentation - Blogs, Trends, News, Research 2. **AI Tooling (Center)**: - AI acts as a productivity multiplier for engineers, represented by: - **2x** through text or document processing (NLP tools). - **5x** by using automated coding assistants (AI code generation tools). - **10x** through voice-based interfaces, boosting efficiency. - **100x** exponential gains via continual AI refinement or massive automation. 3. **Synthesize Phase (Right Side)**: - The output from the engineer, enhanced by AI, can be transformed into: - Code - Information/Research - Media - Products Conclusion: The future engineer is significantly empowered by AI, using it as a core multiplier of their productivity across various domains, fundamentally transforming the software development process.

At $200 per million tokens for realtime, and o1 maxing out tokens it's too expensive in the near term to use these tools especially if a tool like o1 uses agents. We will have to wait for prices to go down 10x to make it worthwhile.

I watched your videos, and started using Aider with Claude to work with a codebase, with o1 assisting me on the side (still waiting for Tier 3 o1 API access to kick in). I'm finding that large files just gobble up tokens, and o1 prices seem like they are 10x of working with Claude. I also found that with large files Tier 2 Claude isn't enough, as rate limits kick in within like 1-3 hours of coding if I'm careless, and require micromanaging large files to get around them and be able to work all day. I'd like to hear you say more about how much money one should be expected to drop upfront for Tier access to APIs that would be required for uninterrupted work for various use cases, and how much we'd have to burn per hour or per day to sustain different kinds of workflows you're talking about, including Ada in if's current form. I'm aware all this will soon get a lot cheaper, but these are the troubles I found myself having to navigate right now as I dive into this space.
@niilantei5614 күн бұрын
If youre into hardware, id suggest building your own AI server / rig. All you really need is 1 or more NVIDIA RTX3090s and a solid open source LLM as your base, Nemotron seems pretty reliable at present. A setup like this may eventually pay itself off, whilst offering you some element of privacy and security for your personal data Or just wait till it all gets cheaper. im seeing companies like Mamooth offering discounted bundle deals for AI services but havent used this myself.
@mariokotlar30313 күн бұрын
@@niilantei56 I already have 4090 that I use for diffusion models all the time, I played around with local LLMs a while ago as well. The thing is that for what I usually do, even state of the art models such as Sonnet 3.5 and o1 are just barely intelligent enough to make a real difference. I find them an order of magnitude more helpful than anything I could run on my puny 24GB of VRAM. Though I am also waiting for the right moment, for local LLMs to catch up a bit more so can dive into them more deeply. Thanks for the recommendations!
@indydevdan11 күн бұрын
I hear you. My advice: invest in yourself, invest in this technology, it is going to change everything. Spend the money, get the results, master the tools. It will get cheaper, right now it's not, bite the bullet and set yourself up for Ws in the future.
@mariokotlar30311 күн бұрын
@@indydevdan Hah, indeed. I literally just spent another 200eur to get access to tier 3 anthropic api and using Aider now finally feels usable for working with a 30k token source file. I'm now tackling challenges that I couldn't have dreamed of touching before.
