Thanks for the footage! The tack at 0:53 shows a risk of the full skeg design - at least 30 seconds of high surface contact. So make only prefect tacks!

Pros and cons right... Although just note the wind was quite light there... And in the shelter of Rangitoto. You can see it pick up as it clears the shadow out into more breeze

@@JustinMitchellTV Do you know if there is a min wind speed where they call off or abandon a race? Previously was a time limit for the first finisher.

6.5kts-23kts... and 6.5kts is true wind speed adjusted for tide... 45min race limit... Sometime jump in if not correct

Very stable on straight line or reaching leg. Acceleration appears quick and accurate. I believe more height off the water particularly in white capped wave conditions .... You don’t want to bottom out or kiss the waves, it will slow forward progress. X factors Ben A ...... great sailor rock solid competitor ...... a .... noc...who feasts of the blood of winning ....... F1 technology which is in this boat when fine tuned could prove lethal in this cutting edge AC competition..... don’t be shy ..... bring it ....... on .......

UK are definitely a powerhouse package... I haven't researched but I'd love to know Airbus' input into USA boat... Technology wise.. they must have access to some decent stuff
@CEJ484 жыл бұрын
They keep the ride height low so that the skeg maintains the pressure difference between the two sides of the hull.
@sukocoimam45194 жыл бұрын
We in F1 in testing always have some tools-array (multiple pivot) to measuring air pressure around some parts to se how air flow between part .. I think its crucial to see airflow on powerplant (sail) and hull .. Mercedes F1 Tech should help INeos with those testing tools also

I'd say they're all over that...I wonder how much Airbus has contributed technically to AmericanMagic boats...

Thanks to Justin for getting this out to the wider world. Surely at this stage given these boats have been out for a few sails at best and the variability of conditions it's way to soon to compare. Can't wait to see these boats and the best racers in the world going head to head.
@JustinMitchellTV4 жыл бұрын
That's the reality.. until we see them side by side same conditions it's hard to compare.. the teams will have the figures on each other and will have an idea... They all follow each boat that's out on the water. May be once they start doing maneuvers we can compare a bit better
@dsmith59404 жыл бұрын
I wonder if flying ‘low’ with the mini keel in (near) contact with the water ‘closes the slot’ and improves performance, or accelerates air under the hull creating an suction downwards.
@JustinMitchellTV4 жыл бұрын
I was under the impression it gives a bit of bouyancy for accidental touchdowns without the full width of the hull contacting the water and sucking down.. and so also helps with take off... Look at sea plane float designs... Similar concept... Anyway.. there's so much to it now technically... Can't wait to see how it pans out for everyone!
@dulls84754 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that. You get a cushion under the boat as well which will decrease the apparent weight if you get my drift.
@Epiphany-8184 жыл бұрын
Flying low also gives an advantage because it means the sails have less leverage so less work has to be done by the foils
@dulls84754 жыл бұрын
@@Epiphany-818 Good point. It is too early to know the speeds. I thought she did not look as fast as the others but you cant tell from the video really. They may have been trying certain things that dont relate to speed. It seems like a good few days for the Brit team.
@carlosduperron82284 жыл бұрын
Brittania is pushing the hull concept to the extreme , I think they will have a little less error margin on normal maneuvers (If she goes down a little as she slows on a transition or a lull , the hull will be closer to the water than other teams) , on the other hand she will be able to recover faster.
@carisi2k114 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it is your camera but the boat doesn't look as fast as the american and kiwi boats. This is obviously practice and nothing can really be seen in regards to speed until races start to happen but those other 2 boats look to have the straight line speed on the UK challenger to me at the moment.

You're right... Until they race... Eg. Going past the beaches out to training they're prob not pushing it... And the wind changing from day to day etc... Can't wait 👍

Are any of the teams flying their kites (code 0) I have not seem any video of one for months. I assume they are getting high apparent winds as they are sailing at good multiples of the wind speed, so it would not be possible. A good sign if they are not. Thanks for the video

Perhaps it'll be a case of only a very specific condition in the day as to whether the use it... And from what I've read yes the apparent wind they're creating is a massive factor for them

I can’t see how the AC has changed for the better. Looking at these AC75s they seem quite slow compared to the AC 72 and AC 45. When the AC75 gybes it almost slows right down to that of a conventional boat. The Vendee Globe boats, like Hugo Boss, is more exciting to watch that what I am seeing. It you had an AC75, AC72 and AC45, I bet the AC45 would be around the course quicker than the AC75. Bring on the challenge...
@JustinMitchellTV4 жыл бұрын
I think week all know more once they're racing... Maneuvering... It would be interesting to compare a lot of them together... Different boats tho.. I think of the VG boats as Paris-Dakar vs AC75 as F1 or IndyCar
@devonmike4 жыл бұрын
AC45’s were reaching speeds of 50 knots rounding the first marker bouy whilst bearing away on a reach. So how fast do these new monohull go... can anyone let me know. If there is anyone reading this from the Ineos team can you share that information?

The front fin makes a huge splash in the water, meaning that the drag is much worst than the competitors. Not as water dynamic as others !
@timpringle65054 жыл бұрын
I actual think Ineos produces considerably less spray off the front foils than Patriot. It is certainly finer, so must be pushing less water up the foil. Either she is travelling a lot slower, or her foil design is more efficient. The more spray, the greater the drag through the water I would think.
