Great video! I`m in the process of installing a LS V8 into a 1982 Volvo 240. I WILL install this fuel pump shut off inertia switch! Accidents happen, why take a chance of being burned to death if trapped in the wreck...

I am building a heavily modified car. It originally did not have a fuel cut off impact switch. I am planning to add one (not safety third in this case🤣) After seeing your video on this particular switch this is the one I'm going with because of its simple reset ability.

Thank you for this video. I am doing some electric fuel pump upgrades, on my friends El Camino that he is getting up and running again. He wants to have an Anti theft switch that you need to find and press before the pump can work, and one of those oil pressure switches, and was wondering how hard it be to add one of these. Thanks to you I now know it's a synch. TY

Can that magnet get weak and the ball start moving around in there and cause intermittent power flow interruptions without doing a full trip out ?

Actually `to answer my own question a year later "Hell ya" this unit can fail , found out first hand with the engine quit running while im bombing down the hy-way , u hav to completely key off in neutral while coasting to restart the engine , just a little scary as u are briefly locking the steering , slam it back in drv and carry on but still better to swap in a knowing good switch

This particular one was on a Ford SUV behind some plastic trim next to the passenger's right foot. I pulled this off of a salvage car, though, so there may have been some soundproofing material between it and the plastic panel. Other vehicles, if they have one at all, may have them in different locations.

Obviously it goes off in a head on collision but if a car were hit side on will it also go off?
@CarsSimplified2 жыл бұрын
Ideally, yes. The mechanism looks like it is focused on two directions, but a strong enough impact from front, rear, sides, or top should knock the ball out of place.

Hi, thanks for the great video! Would you know what voltage should be on the pins, as I have one of these inertia switches on my 1995 Fiat Ducato diesel motorhome and there isn't any voltage on the pins. I'm currently fault finding on the motor as it cranks but doesn't start. There doesn't seem to be an electric fuel pump on it, only the main mechanical fuel pump. I cracked open the injector fuel pipes (one by one) that supplies the diesel fuel to the injectors. But only 2 injector fuel pipes were showing fuel squirting out as the engine was cranked over. So I'm wondering could it be this fuel inertia switch?? So I did a resistance check on the pins and when the button is pushed down in the correct position there is no resistance on either side, from the left pin to middle pin ( C NO) and from right pin to middle pin ( NC ) which there should be a resistance on one side, when the button is pushed in, is that correct? But when the ball is knocked out from its position ( like in a crash ) then there is a closed circuit resistance reading from one end pin to the middle pin (C NO) and an open circuit reading from the other end pin to the middle pin ( NC). Which I assume is correct. Also do you know if there should be 12 volts on it? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Regards, Karl

My '94 F-150 has dual tanks/fuel pumps. I'd like to install an anti theft switch to kill the fuel pumps by using one of the inertia switch wires. Which wire is best to install my kill switch in between? Thank you.
@CarsSimplified5 жыл бұрын
I would have to look at a wiring diagram for that particular vehicle, but the only safe place to put it is between the inertia switch and the pump; cutting power to the inertia switch would also cut power to whatever it turns on for safety after a crash. If you know what color wires connect to the fuel pump motor, check for that wire at the switch. Also, are you planning on using a relay, or a high amp switch?
@Jim-ee6pz5 жыл бұрын
High amp switch.

I just looked at a 2004 ranger. With a no start problem. The switch had a connector that was burnt and terminals were not making contact. I put a jumper wire between the two terminals and the car started. My question is. What caused the connector to get burnt and melted? Any ford technician out there leave a comment below.

Part 563 Federal rules states that deceleration exceeding 5 mph in 150 milliseconds will wake the box up and collect data usually 5 seconds of speed, braking and much more. Pretty close to a 12 to 15 mph impact will pop the bags. So many variables can happen. I have downloaded hundreds in crashes - never had one pop because of hard braking "until it hit the tree'.
