I don’t get why prisoners who have killed others think they should have rights in prison. Prison is a punishment not a hotel, they didn’t give the people they killed rights so why should they have them.
@TimberlakeTigerGirl
@TimberlakeTigerGirl 4 ай бұрын
The point of prisons is to correct their behavior so that they can redeem themselves and reintegrate into society. Studies have proven over and over again that one of the main reasons why US prisoners have a high return rate is because the US treats them like animals. Beats them up over the littlest of offenses, doesn't take physical or emotional health seriously and the sentence often doesn't fit the crime. Like a murderer gets less jail time than a drug addict. And so many other problems that I can list. Meanwhile in Norway, they treat their prisoners like actual human beings. Comfortable cells, therapists and counciling, education and behavioral corrective programs. And their sense of justice is more even where people aren't spending decades in jail for minor things. As a result, they have a very low return rate of prisoners.

@@TimberlakeTigerGirlthat’s why norway has a prison that treats them way better, gives them soft beds, books, good food, yard time, and overall it’s like a hotel. their goal is to rehabilitate and not beat them up and turn them into animals.

Most prisons are privately owned so they are for profit
@the1only467

Most prisons are run by the state they’re in unless they’re federal in which the federal government runs them. The B.O.P. (Federal government) has zero private prisons. I know Virginia just shut down its last private prison also. Private jails? Maybe but lots of states are shying away from them due to the lack of security by guards. Private prisons are rampant with corruption, drugs and extreme violence by both guards and inmates.

Recidivism statistics in the U.S. are bleak. A 2021 Bureau of Justice Statistics study found that 66% of people released from prison in 24 different states in 2008 were re-arrested within three years. At the decade mark, 82% had been re-arrested.25. i dont think your system is working as it is. Adding more punishment to it probably wont fix it.

Prison shouldn't be a nice place. People shouldn't want to go there. So they shouldn't get luxuries paid by people who'd rather see them dead.

Prison was supposed to be for rehabilitation except for when you go to prison and you come out you can't be a productive member of society because how do you get a job how do you live your life when you have felonies and you spend time in prison and people see that they don't want to hire you so you can't live your life then you struggle you end up committing more crimes because it's all you can do to survive to take care of yourself and it's just a vicious circle the American way of the justice system is super f***** up if you look into like Sweden and s*** like that they've got it right they've got Rehabilitation right like a lot of other countries have got it on point we a are f***** up are f***** up
