They say never meet your Heroes .. I remember meeting this brother in a NYC nightclub and I complemented him on his music and how Black Moon kept me connected to culture while serving in the military overseas. He tried to get me jumped by Onyx. I was like wow .. I don't have any beef .. I was a big fan! That experience will never diminish the memories associated with hearing his music for the first time and the fact he was from my neighborhood makes it more profound.

Snoop famously said in an interview that after literal billions of streams on Spotify, he received a check for $45K. We thought the way music used to be was a rip off to artists. Today's numbers are criminal. Artists can basically only make money during shows. I was a DJ and small time producer in the late 90s. Soon as Napster hit I changed my career path. It was tough to make money the old way and I knew this would cripple the artist. I was not wrong.

Buckshot is one point...i seen the change remember when "Napster" first came on the scene.....music artist was frantic cuz what "Napster" did was allow music lovers to pay a subscription & you can download hundreds songs files on your desktop or cellphone playlist ....it took away the artist royalties from purchasing vinyl & cds sales. Fast forward....nowadays its platforms like "Spotify", "Last FM","I Heart Radio", "Apple Music" & so on ....streaming music today is our norm ...i seen it coming rhe death of physical album sales to cloud based music rentals...... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

They are crying now but they were laughing at us for decades. There are all kinds of people who are getting 1/8 of a penny per listen now, but they would have gotten nothing from me 25 years ago. Big tech gets to choose who makes it on their platforms. It's not organic in anyway shape or form. They can literally make you a millionaire overnight by putting your videos on the fyp. Record companies & movie studios couldn't do that. You got a bunch of talentless nerds making millions on these platforms because of it. These tech firms are killing everything they touch and giving what's left to talentless little minions they get to choose. It's not random either. I hate it.

You should make an effort to own physical copies of your music! Paying a subscription fee to streaming platforms is no more than renting your music. What if Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Pandora, etc., suddenly stopped streaming, or their servers crashed? What if an artist decides to pull their entire catalog from all streaming platforms? How are you going to listen to that artist's music with no cd, vinyl, or cassette? I still have over 90% of every cd I ever purchased, going all the way back to the 90s.
@the_shadow_healer

that part, artists are lazy they expect a company to literally create a physical product, market it, supply it, etc...but then the artist wants full control and all the money, sorry but business doesn't work that. Every artist should learn how to be independent, make physical copies of their own music as a direct to consumer product.

@the_shadow_healer I can agree, but as an independent artist myself, it is easier said than done. The market is saturated with bedroom producers on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms, and the majors also control distribution. Many, many talented people simply do not have the connections or the deep pockets to get real promotion and distribution. I myself am only able to produce so many cd copies with my limited budget, and I have to rely more on word of mouth and social media to raise awareness of my singles and releases (again, real promotion costs real money).
@the_shadow_healer
@the_shadow_healer 4 ай бұрын
@@ssjlkrillin I agree but it can be done look at LaRussell out in California. He literally created an experience for people to watch, attend, and invest in. Nowadays creativity wins, yes it will be hard starting out but once it gets rolling sky is the limit. No LaRussell sells out everywhere he travels. There are a lot of artists who took the independent route but it's a lot of work to protect your own intellectual property. Social media nowadays is the best thing that happened for artists, they have a direct to consumer pipeline if its built the correct way.

i don't know about that. Much of the recordings had backups and you can bet most of the recordings were bad takes and poor songs. Those are important for deceased artists like a Buddy Holly, whose life got cut short, so those were all that they had from him. Many others were small labels acquired by them with shelved artists, although some could have been popular artists first recordings, under other names or as background singers. as long as they were all put on a quality CD at some point in time, not much was lost.

I often wonder why folks brag about a "career", when actually being controlled 24 hours a day?? Think about it.... If a person posts something on Instagram or Facebook and their "employer" see it and don't like what they say they will get fired, so why brag about a degree when you still going to get controlled!!!

Even when you own your own business, 9 times out of 10 you're still owned, believe me, I know....hence, don't pay those taxes, don't pass that inspection, don't have everything up to code (which is a rip off), don't update up to code... EVERYONE IS PAYING..even when you finish paying off your mortgage, you still don't own your house because if you don't pay those taxes, that house is no longer yours.. we all are being ripped off..

Buckshot sounds smart to people who are ignorant about business and how how media works. Every single Media Platform and Medium outlet backbone is Advertising. The SOLE reason we have different TV Stations, Radio Stations, Music genres, Different magazines, etc is so ADVERTISERS can target their customer better... So as long as people USE the Medium platforms, VIEW the media content/Shows, LISTEN to songs, become a Paid member/subscriber, etc.etc these platforms will always exist. People been saying Radio was going extinct for 80 years when TV came out in the early 1940's... These Celebrities got people believing that a medium/platform go away because of the Celebrities or the FAIR Business Practice is clueless about business and the media. It was never designed for the TALENT to make the money, but the Owners, Producers, Executives, Shareholders. Streaming makes money for the company, not the Talent
