Thanks for sharing your video. I also have a Baofeng. Don’t know why everyone hates the radio that saved the amateur radio industry. Many people started on the Baofeng. 😆🤝

N9TAX gang with a Rite-In-The-Rain and pencil! I use a Yaesu FT-60R handheld because it's more rugged and has better features than the Baofeng but I won't crap on you, I have 3 of those radios myself. Great video man, this is exactly the kind of content I'm trying to put out on my channel now. Great stuff! You need to get your General Class license and join us on HF. Take care, 73

Thank you! Been looking at the yaesu radios alot lately. Once I get some other comms stuff sorted out I may pick one up to try out some. Also plan on getting my general license once I learn some more. I'll definitely check your channel out to. Keep an eye out for some more comms video here to! 73!

@swampdweller1566 Ham Radio Outlet has the Yaesu FT-60R for $155 which isn't too bad. Much like everything there's no silver bullet solution but that has a nice feature set and is very rugged. You're smart to upgrade the antenna first, and the N9TAX roll-up is definitely the way to go!

@wildcatcomms yeap upgrading to the n9tak and the signalstuff was well worth the upgrade. No complaints about either one, especially paired with the bff8hp

@@swampdweller1566 the last thing you might consider for your kit is a longer run of thin coax and some more paracord. You will be surprised how much more effective the radio is the higher you can get the antenna. So if you have more paracord you can tie it around a rock or a water bottle, throw it up in a tree or etc, hoist the antenna up high, connect the longer run of thin coax, and then you'll really be getting out there!

@wildcatcomms - could you please create a video on how to setup the comms for a public event? Ideally, a practically oriented video.

Good informative video, good to see someone make use of a cheaper ham radio for Emcomms. I agree with you on the use of these in emergencies, I was JUST in the tornado that hit Lakeview Ohio and my 2m emcomms pack is the first thing i grabbed heading out the door. Mine is also based on the UV-5R, 2 extended batteries plus 4 regular batteries, a slim roll up J-pole, a 26800 mah battery pack, a Nagoya and a Single stick antennas plus all the cables and power base to keep it all charged. My wife and I drove through the storm dodging debris giving reports to the local ham emcomms response group who coordinated with the sheriff dept. to get rescue efforts started, all while using my little cheap Baofeng UV-5R. So yea they're great, rugged little radios and they get the job done when called on, no pun intended. Besides if i ruin this radio i'm not out a small fortune. 73 de W8MJL

Duuuude thank you. I have a CB and a good amount of gear but, my radio is a bit heavy. I'm hiking in areas with really really dense forest and mountains. I love radios because you can chat with people easily on them. Garmin is awesome for just being saved but, I also just wanna shoot the shit sometimes after long days.

I use a pair of electric ear protector and a push to talk mic with an audio out. I run a short audio patch cord in the center of the coiled mic cord. So I have audio in my ears the push to talk mic near my mouth. Plus outside sounds are amplified this helps my hearing aids to pick them up.

Brand new to GMRS. Ham license maybe soon. Have an interest in comms for disaster, shtf, etc. for localized family members. Be interested in seeing you set it up. I know it sounds common sense maybe but still would be a good vid

Dont have a clue how to use it either lol. I was told theres freqs that i can use that doesnt require license but i havent really researched it.

Thank you, for remembering to mention the required licence - To those vievers who don't have a licence, there's great radios around , which don't require a licence, they are on a different band, but there's plenty of frequencys to use. I did'nt see anything in Swamp Dweller's video that can't benefit somebody using public frequencys.

yep repeaters will and can go down. That's why you can use simplex. Have a mobile radio with higher power25-100 watts and talk further without a repeater. Get a general class license and talk around the world on a few watts up to 1500 watts.
