Thanks for the variation. This is by far the most Austen - like in style that I have come across recently. It's great to hear a tale written by someone skilled in the use of the English language! 👍 (not too many modernisms, and no Flaunting of the Rules, which I've heard from at least two other Austen developers. A young woman might flaunt her new diamond solitaire, but rules are there to be flouted, are they not?) oh dear, I do sound like the most dreadful snob... 🤭

Thank you! I do have a couple of others out in ebook and a new one releasing the 26 April (The Second Mrs Bennet) but unfortunately they don't do as well in audio as my 'regular' Regencies so don't always justify the effort of recording them. I do have plans to get The Second Mrs Bennet done in the next couple of months though!

Very well written. Quite horrifying to see Mr Collin’s like this. It is good to see Anne stand up for others though.

The book is very good and feels very much authentic. It deals with assault but the main theme in the story is actually the goodness in the vast majority of humans shown when evil people does evil things. It does have a happy and satisfying ending! Just desserts most definitely happen. However the description and its trigger warning should be read before listening.

Has anyone noticed the misspelled word on the cover of this story. Prejudice is spelt incorrectly. The story is unaffected by this over sight A great version of Pride and prejudice.

Enjoying the story. Just a comment on editing: there isn't enough of a pause between the end of one chapter and the title of the next chapter being spoken. A couple of seconds is needed. Also, the volume of the spoken chapter title is much lower than the rest of the spoken text.

Hm that's interesting you say that, because I actually leave 4 full seconds of silence at the end of every chapter file. KZbin must be truncating them together somehow!

Enjoying the plot but why Mr Collins? He's Jane Austen's silly vicar, she had him down as a bumpling prig,full of his and Lady Catherine Debough consequence. He's a weak sad man who was out of his depth in pride and prejudice. But in my opinion he's pride, the fact that he was lady Catherine Debough's right hand man and his own sense of what he stood for wouldn't allow him to attack Lissie. He'd be more inclined to demand Charlotte do her wifely duties

Well... that's the thing with these kind of What If? stories. If every character behaved exactly as they did in Austen's canon, then there wouldn't be any new kind of story to tell! The question I asked before writing this was: What if Mr Collins was just all-around more awful? What if he really was obsessed with Lizzie and never got over her rejection? In a moment of madness and fury when he thinks she has become Darcy's mistress, just how badly might he behave? I have another story I'm working on where Wickham really did become a curate... because he figured out just how much unfettered access to teenage girls he'd get as such a trusted figure in the community. One small change can lead to a very different story.
