@@CarolinaBloomquist Believe it or not, I know a few people my age who have never even heard of Terry Kath! I find that stunning! Especially when you compare Chicago to other well-known groups of the same era, like Led Zeppelin. Most people know the members of Zeppelin. Yet they were only together as a band for 11 years, putting out 8 studio albums and 16 singles. By comparison, Chicago's been together 53 years, putting out 24 studio albums and 64 singles! Go figure.

The older I get the more I find myself saying to people "I will take no pleasure in saying that I told you so". I'm sure that's exactly how Terry's friend felt. Chicago is one of those bands that I think pretty much everyone likes, even if they don't realize it. Also, wow, that's a fancy cemetery.
@williamblair95973 жыл бұрын
That is one of the best looking cemeteries I've seen. Terry was a very big part of the band Chicago. That was the end of Chicago as far as I was concerned. Terry f$%ked up. I was surprised when this happened. For someone who supposedly knew guns, I could never understand why he did something so ignorant. He should have known the difference between a revolver and a semi-automatic. Maybe he did and this just backs up the saying, don't "play with guns" and never point one at someone else or yourself, unless you intend to kill that person or yourself. I do recall at the time some implication concerning the influence of drugs. There are similarities between Terry and Freddie Prinze's death. Both appeared to be accidental, although both were suspected to involve drug use at the time these tragedies occurred.

My father taught al five of his children well about firearms, he even told us don't even point a BB Gun at anyone because you never know if there's still a bb in there. Terry is a really great musician. I live in the US and my parents came here from Sicily. My parents did not teach us children the Sicilian language but they would always play Italian music in the house. I never understood my parents music and thought it was just horrible noise that annoyed me. When I meet my now husband, one day we had to borrow his father’s truck. On the seat of the truck was a Chicago cassette tape. In shock I turned to my now husband and said “your parents like Chicago”? My husband was a little freaked out by my exclamation and just looked at me and said yes of course it’s an older band. (This was the late 80’s). I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea that a parent could listen to music that I liked too it was just beyond my comprehension. My husbands parents had great taste in music, and I could actually understand the lyrics.

Hard-Core Terry Kath fan, as I was listening to them (Chicago) from the "Beginnings" (late 60's) and also grew up in the city that was directly adjacent to Glendale, where Terry had his first home, and where the Forest Lawn that he is interred at is located, with me having visited his gravesite on several occasions. (My Mother and Grandmother are both interred at Forest Lawn Glendale). His death still haunts me to this day, with me "alternating" between sadness, (for all the music still inside of him that would never come to be!) and ANGER, as his death was so EASILY avoidable! In addition to playing guitar myself, firearms have also been my hobby since I was 10 years of age (currently pushing 70), and my training (and COMMON SENSE!!) taught me to ALWAYS "Rack that Slide 3 Times even if you're "sure" the gun is "unloaded"!!", when it comes to an autoloading pistol, which is what Terry inadvertently killed himself with. After FIRST removing the magazine, I (or anyone for that matter!) can in literally less than 2 seconds "Rack that Slide THREE TIMES!", and had Terry heeded that one simple, quick, and easy safety precaution, he'd probably still be with us today.. Chicago was NEVER the same post Terry's death, and though they continued to put out some really great music post Terry's tragic demise, the "Chicago" that many of us knew and loved, "died" when Terry did...

You got a lot of exercise doing this one!! Chicago is a great band, you've probably heard their music on and off all of your life you just didn't take notice of who the band was. Saturday In The Park is probably their most memorable song to me just because it takes me back to the 70's. Peter Cetera (sp?) really put them back on the charts in the 80's and with music videos they gained a whole new audience. I've never seen them in concert but my mother has, more than once. Thank you for helping me relive the memory, it's bittersweet but wow, what a talented guy, such a loss. ❤

I have loved the group Chicago ever since I was teenager in the early 70s. The last time I saw them was at a winery in the summertime about 15 years ago…Thank you Harmin

Loved Chicago in the 70's and still do today. Hard to pick favourites, but 25 or 6 to 4 and Wishing you were Here would be my top 2. Those horns! The arrangements, man take me back...

This just made me so sad and teary-eyed. I too, love this band. The fact that he was only 31. I have a son that's 31. It's so sad that he was being so foolish. RIP

Such a horrible tragedy 😢 never ever ever think guns are some kind of toy! They are for killing only. Always treat them as loaded and pointed toward the ground!! Terry Kath unfortunately lost his life and changed the lives of his loved ones and fans 😢💔 Thank you for sharing this with us Eric Harmin!!! You have such respect for those who have passed. Chicago's music has been one of my favorites since I was a kid listening to my big brothers play it 💖🤗🔊🎶🎷🎸🎺🥁🎙 p.s. absolutely beautiful cemetery

Thanks Harmon, one of the absolute worst tragic moments in music history. I will always be in awe of his 1970 Tanglewood solo on 25 or 6 to 4. It was as if he was one with that guitar. Rock and Roll lost one of the best there ever was or will be.

Hey gregory, yes he was an absolute legend on guitar. Wish he would have been more careful with guns. Thanks man!

My fiancé committed suicide in front of me and you’re right that’s certainly not something that you want to picture in your mind and heart for the rest of your life it never goes away it just gets to the point that you don’t think about it everyday . But like I said it never goes away . Chicago was & is one of my favorite bands ever .

In 1969, Chicago came to our commune farmhouse in Warrington PA. My husband's (drummer/vocals) jammed with Danny Seraphine in the barn.

What a shame, I am so glad we don't have your gun laws here in Australia, we don't have deaths related to hand guns/guns in general in this country, only if you are a 'bad guy' or a shooting/hunting accident. Sad story, his poor Mother. Good story Harmin, very nice and respectful.

I saw them in concert in 1988. One of the best concerts I went to. I never heard of this death.
