The whole argument against triggers is that you can set it up so that you get the same volume regardless of how hard you hit a drum. Many consider this 'cheating'. I look at it from the perspective that you still have to know how to play the drums and keep time... so what's the difference? I like that there's an option where you don't necessarily have to beat the fuck out of your kit just so people can hear you play. Since I like many different genres of music, electronica being one of them, I don't mind an overproduced sound... in-fact I enjoy it a lot of the time. It's 2013, your albums don't have to sound like your mics are submerged in mud. Triggers can be used to simply amplify the drums which is absolutely no different than a guitar player plugging their guitar into an amp, and that's where some unwarranted hate comes from. In a live setting this can be immensely useful if you're playing somewhere where the acoustics are shit.
@ReverendQuattroBajeena10 жыл бұрын
I bet nobody would have a problem with it if people used electric sets live.
@nicholaslornadek823410 жыл бұрын
Nope. Triggers are a terrible advantage for a drummer. That because you didn't have to think about your touch or the dynamic of the hit, even if you play very very low, the hit will remain hard or powerful as it is in the trigger. Also, yes, you can go faster, because you can give a fuck about the precision of your blast or of your feet, you have just to go as fast as you can, when normally, if you go too fast, you have to think about the sound and the volume of the hit. So, yeah, is a lil' bit like cheating.
@woffe80944 жыл бұрын

@birchdaownload4123 жыл бұрын
yeah no doubt this shit is impressive as hell but if he were to do a double bass like at 1:15 on a real drum set it would be quiet as shit because of how little range of motion there is in order to get such a fast speed. Still far beyond my comprehension on how he manages to do this unless he just isn't human.

+InputSilver9 Then how is that not cheating when your beaters are less than 20 degrees from the bass head?
@nackskott128 жыл бұрын
If you looked, you'd notice that's because when he's not using the pedals he's resting his foot onto the pedal. If you see at 1:00 he's playing more forcefully and the beater goes all the way back. When you see him actually play fast, his feet are swiveling in very small movements (thus the beater not going back the whole way) because most people can't play 200+bpm 16th notes at full force, thus the triggers. In fact, the only person I can think of who COULD is George Kollias. It's like how you can't blast on the snare at 200bpm without using your fingers to swivel the sticks, otherwise you'd be fucking flailing like a madman and still barely making 150. What alot of people don't realize is that triggered drums still require a shitload of practice to play, because you still have to have clarity in your hits. All triggers do is make it so you don't have to play hard. Triggers mean nothing if you can't keep time. Besides, I'd like to see you play songs this fast using your whole foot for a 45 minute set and see how long you last.
@nackskott127 жыл бұрын
***** I'm not saying they could play this shit in a full live set, I don't think anybody could. That's not the point - I'm saying that he clearly has the skill to actually play the individual songs is all. It's a studio project, so why is everyone trying to call it "cheating" anyway? Of course alot of the stuff he writes in IA is not the sort of stuff you'd play live, because it's so damn technical for everyone involved. Do you think the guitar solos are practical to play in a live situation? Probably not. However, Aaron can actually play this shit, as seen in the video, and he quite clearly hasn't set up those triggers how you're describing them. If you're questioning whether IA's music would work in a "45 minute set," then you've missed the point imo. The only way that would work practically into a live situation is if the triggers were calibrated to each individual song's tempo, otherwise the programmed hits would be out of time. Don't really see what practical use that'd have.
