what is awesome is that Daut didn't even need to destroy the castle fully by the end. He drained repard's resources so much by having him think he needed to repair it.

Infantry is in a better place now than the past but the champion line still needs a little bit. It takes to long to switch into it and it's normally not good to use the long swords and two handed swords. This game has over 200 long swords verses like 60 units from the opponent. Pike line feels like it is in a great place though.

Infantry is very micro intensive as we saw in this game. On the TC to force a fight. They take the fight? Back on the units. Units ran away? Back on the TC. Back and forth back and forth. Just a ton of clicking.

Crazy game. Would earlier bodkin have significantly helped Repard? Daut had gambeson advantage for quite some time there.

I think earlier murder holes would have helped a lot. Could have killed off the longswords under his castle faster and saved the stone for another castle, to build more longbows to counter the longswords.

This has nothing to do with this game, but I am getting fed up with the anti-defensive and pro-ranged unit rules of AoE2: -Rams should not be damaged by any ranged except gunpowder in imperial age. -Stone should not be damaged by melee or ranged units except gunpowder in imperial age. -Building fire should be AT LEAST as accurate as archers before and after ballistics. The defensive buildings are magically firing arrows. The arrows are fired by archers/crossbowmen permanently manning them, and they can be manned with additional ranged units. It makes no sense for ranged units to go from 50% accuracy out in the open to 0% accuracy inside the safety of a defensive building. ZERO SENSE. If anything, ranged units will be MORE ACCURATE inside defensive buildings. -Murder holes should ADD an extra more deadly attack next to the building than away from the building. Players who like using defensive buildings have to build a university and get ballistics and murder holes before their defensive buildings even get the kind of functionality that units get automatically in addition to being mobile. The whole point of a defensive building is supposed to be that it PROTECTS you by virtue of the fact it is a stone building and cannot be brought down by archers, melee units, or early gunpowder. Murder holes are NOT NEEDED to hit units at the base of walls. Castle defenders were able to hit troops at the base of their walls without the use of murder holes, but it was challenging. Even though the base of a castle wall is often referred to as the "dead zone" because it's difficult for defenders on the wall to target enemies directly below, several tactics and architectural features were used to address this challenge: Machicolations: These were stone structures that projected out from the walls or towers, allowing defenders to drop stones, hot oil, or other projectiles directly down on attackers at the base of the walls. While similar to murder holes, machicolations were built into the parapets and were external. Arrow Slits or Loopholes: These narrow vertical openings allowed archers to fire arrows at attackers. Some arrow slits were angled or designed to provide a downward angle, allowing archers to target enemies closer to the base of the walls. Defensive Towers: Many castles featured towers that projected outward from the main walls. These towers allowed defenders to fire along the length of the wall (known as "flanking fire"), covering the base of the wall more effectively. Crossbows and Longbows: Skilled archers using crossbows or longbows could fire at steep angles to target enemies at the base of the walls, though this required considerable skill. Bastions and Flanking Positions: Some castles were designed with bastions or other defensive positions that allowed defenders to fire across the base of the walls from different angles. Boiling Liquids and Projectiles: In addition to dropping heavy objects, defenders could pour boiling liquids or throw projectiles over the parapets to hit attackers directly below. While murder holes provided a very direct method of attacking enemies at the base of the walls, these other methods allowed castle defenders to still effectively engage attackers in that vulnerable area.
