Good vid -- previously encouraged you to do a Natural Gear SCII (best camo year round for Texas Hill Country IMO --- limiting factor is NG's narrow selection on synthetic garments apparently tailored to turkey season in their current lineup -- have some older cotton flannel in that pattern which are great for hill country winters w/ cedar/juniper proliferation along w/ fall tans and browns), but I'm also awaiting a Kryptek Obscura video for similar camo design approach/philosophies... Relative to this vid, Kryptek has an Obskura Grom, with white base with tan, brown, and green overlays for snow... The Obscura Transitional strikes me as particularly well suited for everything but desert west Texas 90+% of the time... It does appear to be a military camo, which was your previous objection to testing NG SCII, so hope you'll give it a go. So consider this a vote/encouragement for a Kryptec Obscura vid, particularly Transitional but also Grom for the more typical dustings in the northern half of Texas up to roughly the Mason Dixon Line snow accumulation is more common... *For military frame of reference, see the Kryptec Transitional as a slightly lighter (believe overly dark camos draw attention) and better macro pattern (better performance at distance) of the Italian Vegetato Woodland camo crossed w/ the original Kryptec camo pattern and then embodying Natural Gear at the macro level and perhaps also colorways.

@@alcmantyrtaeus Oh, I know it, brother. I'm from a Marine Corps family and a major military area in South-Eastern Virginia ( Tidewater/Hampton Roads area where all the even-numbered SEAL teams are, Navy Atlantic Fleet HQ, and a bunch of stuff like Marine Amphib base, Naval Air stations like Oceana and Naval Air Station Norfolk, the largest Naval shipyard in the world [Norfolk Naval Shipyard, which is actually in my hometown of Portsmouth], and so-on ). So I have many family and friends in all branches of service, mostly Navy and Marines going back to my Granddaddy, an old WW2 combat Marine ( I was raised by my Grandparents ) who taught me how to shoot and maintain guns starting young, actually giving and buying guns for my Christmas and Birthdays ( including a WW2 era Walther PPK .32ACP with German military markings, even tho he was in the PTO during WW2, a Springfield 1903 30-06 [he was a designated marksman], a Hara Kiri dagger he got from a Jap he killed on Guam, stuff like that ). He instilled a lot of Marine Corps values in me like honesty, courage, respect, dignity, a strong work ethic, don't give up, that kind of stuff. I wouldn't be the man I am today without my Grandparents' upbringing and guidance, I'd have probably wound up like a lot of my childhood friends did once they got older : in jail, strung-out, or dead. For those who don`t know pocket warmers with gas are worth their weight in gold and probably more. Supposedly the peacock brand is best (i have great experiences with my two). Take them and a few "cans" of lighter fluid. It changes things. The instant ones work too but in my experience the ones with coal sticks are not worth it. Anther option to get or stay warm in the cold is to put a tealight on the floor, put aluminium foil or a metal can or metal ready meal packaging arond it, sit over it and have a poncho over you and the small fire. The metal heats up and holds as well as distributes the heat better than the air. you can also use tealights to put them into your boots if you don`t want to take them with you into your sleepingbag. Quite usefull when you are in places like the alps in a snowstorm.

Keep a look out for military surplus white "Chefs pants", aka "Kitchen pants" or "Food service pants", I use them as snow camo when hunting up here in Michigan. They can often be found in larger sizes, and at very discounted prices. not perfect, but a solution for short term use.
@cthulhu66973 жыл бұрын
@@RoyOrbisonsElvisTape You own a mansion and a yacht, haha ( see what I did there? ). But Gortex, Mickey boots, and Polar Tech are your friends in Winter, especially when it snows. If you have at least most of the elements of the U.S. GI ECWCS and the improved middle layer and bivvy of the U.S G.I sleep system ( the improved middle layer is rated for 10 below Fahrenheit, but you probably knew that ), and a mil surplus poncho and woobie and Mylar space blankets to make a "pretty much, basically" Ranger Roll, and you're dressed for the weather, you won't freeze to death even where you are, in the "murder mitten". I now live way up in the Great Smokies, right between Great Smokey Mountains National Forest and Park, and the Pisgah National Forest. Good hunting and you can shoot your guns all day with no cops and neighbors for miles, but it gets really cold up here in these mountains, with lots of frequent snow. When I run guns and gear in the woods to keep up my training and have some fun playing with my guns and gear a couple miles in and strap on that big ILBE or my U.S GI MOLLE 2 large ruck ( both with their respective assault packs, some of those big, 500 cubic inches each sustainment pouches, 200 round SAW gunner pouches, and gear with a couple of my choice guns, surplus green, military pistol belts, my Russian "Vest Alpha" chest rig or Spetsnaz Tactical Vest, KA-BAR, bayonet, and plenty of extra mags and vacuum sealed ammo ) or go hunting a couple of miles in for a day or two with a medium, surplus ruck like the medium MOLLE 2, Norwegian Ludwig, the smaller German Alpine ruck, and so-on ( all of those are good for 2-3 days, especially with a GI waist duffel/butt pack, and each comfortably packs about 75 pounds of gear and you can easily and comfortably travel 1-3 miles with the rucks stuffed with all of the gear you need for that), a scoped bolt action WW2 rifle, and magnum caliber revolver like a .44 Magnum, I can pack a pop-up, hooped bivvy and Ranger Roll and be actually pretty comfortable with surplus cold weather clothing. I try and stick to surplus, since it's way better than civilian gear that costs several times more ( I think I paid $40 for the Ludwig, about $50 for the German Alpine, and about $75 for the medium MOLLE 2, all used and still in good shape ) and I really want to get a WW2 era German " sleeping bag with arms" that you can pull up, engage the tabs so it's like a weather-proof, thigh high parka, and it can be your double duty sleep gear and top layer ( I think they were made for the Luftwaffe Falschirmjaeger and Waffen SS units attached to Oberkommando der Ost on the Eastern front ). I'm sure you've heard of and seen them, but they're so difficult to find, especially in decent shape. Any idea of where you can find them at a decent price? I ask because it seems we have similar hobbies and activities in common like traipsing around the woods with guns, gear, and hunting, and I've been looking for one for years and thought you may know of a vendor I hadn't heard of. I may have to invest in a Russian BARS/Gorka suit as a top layer and pack a Ranger Roll to sleep in, but I really like that German piece of kit

@@cthulhu6697 I approve of all of those great things, and use many of them when I need to, and will admit my cheap-o ways aren't the best, and the chefs pants would be miserable like wearing wet paper towels if I didn't have a water resistant insulated West German military surplus snow suit under them.

Stay clear of cotton. Gathers moisture snd freezes. Miserable.
@marzcapone99394 жыл бұрын
I avoid cotton as well, generally speaking, for camping. There's parkas made of cotton canvas, like Empire Wool and Canvas make. The further north, and the colder it is, the dryer it can be. In those temps, cotton as an outer shell, works because it breathes. In that environment, you shouldn't encounter water, rain, or slush. I have an anorak made from 65/35 polyester/cotton that I use in freezing conditions. Over a wool layer, it breathes better than Gor-Tex. I've had condensation, or sweat, build up inside a Gor-Tex shell to the point it was dripping. I can shovel snow, and sweat, with the cotton/poly shell on and it breathes enough to not condensate. As I've gotten older, I don't hike or snowshoe anymore. So, I have not tried the cotton/poly shell in as many situations. But, I would have used it back then.

I've been doing extensive research on winter white gear, if you find it, very limited descriptions of items, really trying to find something reputable, and could be used in SW Ohio, or Michigan.

I want to know where you got those flares and where us, the average citizen, can get them! They're hard to find at a reasonable price, other than the standard Orion maritime flares. Any help you can offer for civilian purchase of illumination and signal flares would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Pete

Living in AUS I have only ever seen snow once in my life. I would imagine foot tracks would be extra easy to follow any tips on 1 how to avoid leaving sign that can be seen from the moon and 2 just how much noise does Snow of different types make as you move over it can they literally hear you coming.

When Eritrean rebells were fighting for freedom back in 1980s for independence they used wear backward shoes to trick the enemy because of the sand there, the enemy used go in the wrong direction and were easily ambushed So if they wear back warded shoes the shoe print on the snow will be showing the wrong direction

trade is based on need. if you have a well then water is of little to no value to you but to another may be more valuable than any ammunition. this belief that you will trade ammo for everything you need is a bad foundation. learn a trade that will be needed and you can be compensated for.

Hey Brent love your videos and i’ve gotten interested in rucking and particularly getting a medium alice pack i could also use for camping. However i’m having a hard time finding a legit USGI medium alice with the Frame. I see sportsman guide sells just the packs but i want the frame as well. You have any suggestions

@Brent0331 Hey, Brent. Another good vid as always. You know, I have a real-deal, authentic WW2 era Waffen SS snow camo smock that looks basically identical to what is shown in this video. It's white with the green daubs to simulate conifer trees. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. Then again, both the U.S. and Russia copied a lot of Third Reich stuff. My favorite rifle, the AKM, is pretty much an STG-44 Sturmgewehr, the STG-44 even looks like a prototype AK. The 9x18mm Makarov is really close to my WW2 era Walther PPK ( mine is .32ACP, with German military markings ). What I wanted to ask is, if I'm in the woods during SHTF, all I have is a poncho, a pop-up hooped bivvy ( a thin, civilian one ), a vinyl shower curtain liner ( as a ground sheet ), blue hardware store tarp, 550 cord, some heavy duty contractor bags ( that I normally would stuff with pine straw and leaves if it weren't snowing ), a cheap, $2 Mylar "space blanket", and a couple wool blankets. It gets cold up here way up in the Great Smokies, with just woods and mountains for miles. Would that keep me from freezing to death in sub-zero temps? How would you employ the gear I have to survive a frozen, mountain night? I would be dressed for the weather, but my Polar Tech long johns and layered clothing would be wet because of perspiration as I tried covering as much ground as possible, and carrying my large ruck ( ILBE or MOLLE 2 Large ruck ), chest rig, AK, mags, pistol belt with a Glock 21 .45ACP, mags for that, and so on. I look forward to your knowledge and insight

@@Brent0331 Helikon needs to make a snow pattern poncho, I have been emailing them about getting more in stock, we need coyote brown Level 7 ECWCS for flat camouflage non-snow camo then light weight over whites for snow camo. Im using the braided elastic you taught us to use in "How to camouflage gear" video to make the cut up sniper veil in white, I put it on Kryptek yeti boonie and over whites, paintball mask, pouches, arms, knee pads. Im going paintballing in PA in March, first scenario event in over a year. Skirmish Paintball. Hopefully alot of people will go. Its Stalingrad.

This will sound silly... For your face, put a white mesh laundry bag over your head. It breaks up the face contours, it's breathable, won't make you overheat, won't disguise frostbite, and you can layer a balaclava under it if you need to. SURPRISINGLY effective.
