In very accessible terms, Father Esposito makes clear the depravity of sin further Dante and Virgil journey into hell. He highlights the increasing violence and descent into the bestial. His description of Vanni Fucci's vulgar blasphemy - mocking God even in hell - I found chilling. His wrap-up: "Those who forsake their innate goodness (being created in God's image and likeness) and disobey God's laws lose their very selves." Powerful presentation.

Thank you Dr. Esposito for a very powerful presentation of a powerful canto. I especially appreciate the visual nature of Dante's poetry in how he describes transformation like the heat of a flame transforms a burning page when the moving line of brown turns to black as the black kills the white, or his description of the speed of a transformation like the flash of sunlight as a lizard leaps from hedge to hedge. Simply beautiful!
