Thanks for your efforts on this. I have it unopened on the shelf and the theme really appeals. Love Nevsky's puzzle and have a ball each time I play, even when messing things up! I think I too need to carefully consider when I open this up and make sure the grey cells are on top form. I think Plantagenet is much more straightforward. Love the themes of this series. Top haircut!

I could easily see them being able to do one involving Normans-especially in Italy-but I don’t think the conduct of the Vikings would be conducive. To my mind, they always “levied “ their force before the start of the operation, and that was it.

@@terry7907 I don't know enough to know if there's a particular campaign that would be conducive, but you could do the later invasions of England where the aim was conquest. Sweyn Forkbeard's invasion or Cnut the Great vs Edmund Ironside

Interesting, I wanted to get into the series and this is rated as less complex than almoravid. From your experiences it seems to be the other way around?

It's got more rules additions. Not sure who's doing the ratings - BGG? You get a selection bias as you progress deeper into the series.

Very interesting and most informative. Did this particular game in the series do a generally credible job of representing the historical reality of the period and locale? Or was it more of an exercise in burdensome gaming than an enlightening simulation of the wars and political struggles? A local online retailer in this part of the world has at least one copy and it's been tempting to grab one. Now, second thoughts are ascendant. Thank you once again for your work.

Other than the weirdness of the knights capture (which could be easily modded) I didn't find anything more disturbing than in any other games of the system. There's a bit of a 'chess-like' aspect to all of these, in that you can largely pre-plan more than I think is correct, but almost all wargames suffer from that. The fact that there's more luck in this one (especially with revolts) throws enough randomness in that your plans can be spoiled by it, which makes up for that a little.

Hmmm, "In-FURR-noooo" ... sounds hot. I haven't tried out this system yet, topics haven't hooked me ... until Plant Agents, which just showed up. About tulips in Holland, I take it. I should probably just go back and play Warrior Knights. :D ... stop thinking the *next* game will be the cool one ... the *next* game, yeah.

imo a major drawback to warrior knights is needing crown and glory to make it really play well

@@gordo6908 I have Crown and Glory. Actually I have 3 copies of WK, and the project is to assemble the best copy along with Crown & Glory. Then do ... something ... with the other two.
