For those interested why bots get unstuck when they notice you, it's because the "combat positioning" behavior is completely separate from the normal pathfinding (aka it ignores the navmesh). And yes, that technically means that if your map has pits bots can fall into (like vertigo) this can be abused to make them kill themselves. In practice it's very unlikely though.
