Federally, the legal age of an adult is 18. In some states the age of consent is between 16-18. Just because someone lives in a state where the age of consent is 16 doesn’t disqualify them as being a minor. If you have to use this as a defense at the age of 42, there’s something mentally wrong with you.
@leonro2 ай бұрын
In Europe (where I live) it's generally 16 when it comes to sex, and socially it's kinda fine to be, let's say, a 23 year old and hook up with a 16 year old. But being 40+ and hooking up with a 16yo, or even a 19yo, will still attract plenty of odd stares despite the legality. And regardless of age, there's still an issue of the power balance between the two parties. I'd even argue that any public person getting into heated stuff with a fan is morally wrong, unless they already established an intimate irl relationship (ie without the public persona on).
@CloudsCrux2 ай бұрын
@@leonro in the states, where both parties are from, the only time its considered okay to have relations between minor and adult is if the relationship was established prior to one of the parties reaching the age of adulthood, 18. So if a 17 y/o and 16 y/o are dating and the 17 y/o hits 18, thats generally an, “okay whatever” but 18+ doing anything inappropriate with 17- is (and should always be) sorely frowned upon. 18 y/o who do get with people 3 to 4 times their age is rather gross but not illegal. Do you boo boo. But if a 23 y/o got with a 16 y/o over here, they would face some serious charges.

Let's say Dr Deceitful's rocky unstable explanation had something to it. What state was he in where he was messaging them from? What are their laws? Not only that almost all these states where they have the aoc lower than 18 (not looking which ones up) have Romeo and Juliet laws, meaning they can only consent to people within 3 years of their age.

For sure. And when it comes to online discussions, ESPECIALLY if both parties are in 2 different states, it's the FEDERAL age of consent, aka 18.

It should be on the accuser to provide evidence, but when you admit in-part to the accusation, you've done that work for them. Those messages have to get shown now if he wants any chance at proving himself innocent, theres no other way around it. To me its pretty simple, if there are really dumb sexual jokes in there and they're with a minor, depending on how bad they are I can look past it because blatant jokes are just blatant jokes, it just depends on if there's a punchline or the "joke" is just "I wanna do xyz to you", cause that last thing isn't a joke its horrifying. If there is a single message "jokingly" entertaining the notion of meeting up or doing something, dudes done. To provide some needed context on the Emily Armstrong scientology claims: the person who originally brought to light the fact that Emily attended one of Masterson's trials also claimed that she has 'strong ties' (paraphrasing) to scientology, which is an infamous "religious organization" widely regarded to be a cult. It's notorious for having some wild beliefs, a prominent one being against mental health awareness. Now given the way in which Chester tragically passed, Emily being a scientologist (and therefore holding such beliefs) would be seen by fans as being incredibly disrespectful to Chester's legacy and well, people in general. So according to the fans, if she is a scientologist, she is very unsuitable to take the role of Linkin Park's new frontman. However, there is a dilema in concluding that she is a scientologist just based on the original claim. It is a well-known fact that leaving the church of scientology can have dangerous repercussions, especially if you are in the public eye. This means there is a good chance that Emily may have left the church and is no longer a believer, but cannot outright say for the sake of her safety. One thing that people have speculated supports this theory is that the lyrics to Linkin Park's newest single released with Emily as the singer, "The Emptiness Machine", may allude to her reflecting on how bad the church was. There is also the reasoning that Linkin Park's members would do their research and not hire someone with harmful beliefs, but of course, that is still only speculation. The whole situation is pretty wild and interesting as a metalhead to see unfold on such a wide platform. I'm hoping that this all resolves itself eventually and that Linkin Park continues to grow and be successful.

Dr. D’s whole “explanation” and vacation definitely feels like he got his legal team to minimize the fallout. He screwed himself over on twitter, which had to be crafted as an explanation of “i wanted them to read that” so he can save some face that what he did was extremely inappropriate and twitch had a solid reason to let him go. Considering his cheating scandal as well, he has a history of inappropriate behavior that teeters on sexual misconduct that makes him a loose cannon on what he may or may not have done
@tippyt88772 ай бұрын
Now, i think his whole explanation does not explicitly mention the age of the individual, which, given his tweets, we can probably assume they were not 18. If they were, he wouldn’t have used language that skirts around just explicitly saying they were over 18. It sounds like they were in a state where the age if consent is either 16 or 17, so while legally there isnt an issue, it raises an ethical question of whether this is still against twitch’s TOS. I still think twitch made a decision in light of all the evidence that makes sense, and if Dr. really wants to clear the air, he needs to release the messages

I suspect the way he interacted with the minor was just so on the verge on not being legal that he was able to squeak by in the legal system, whereas any normal person would see it and just think "yeah that's hella weird to talk to a minor that way". I think he won't ever directly state anything about the exchanged messages because if they do ever get leaked, then him denying it on top of the leak will make him look as bad as possible. Doc is really hammering in the "No CSAM was exchanged" part like it isn't possible to be creepy with teens online without going that far. And the BS about baiting media and commentators with the edited statement is ridiculous. No one believed that other than his buttsniffers. Every new thing this dude does makes me think he's more and more of a lying creep.

Doc harping on the legal terms of what he did isn't the win he thinks it is. And playing into the idea that people think you're a predator is an... Interesting strategy... He feels like he has no good arguments, so he's just lashing out emotionally at anything he can latch onto.

Absolutely go down the scientology rabbit hole. It's wild, stuff about the leaders wife disappearing. I believe it was Shannon Dougherty that had a whole TV series around it because she used to be in it, then caught on to the thing about the leaders wife, and the fact that others were very seemingly covering it up. There's also a KZbinr Reckless Ben that has a big series from around the start of his channel where he went in with camera glasses to see what it was about

I feel like ppl dont understand that age of consent is automatically 18 if the offender or victim is from or resides in another state, even if both states have their consent law under 18. You dont have to physically cross state borders either if youre sexting a minor in another state. Anything that crosses a state line is automatically a federal case

Dr. Disrespect has only said things, already admitted to being weird with a minor, changed it when he got blowback, tried to hide what he said, won't show any proof (and as I understand it, is being combative with anyone who asks for proof of his claims), and now he's saying he lied and there's a giant conspiracy against him? I'm sorry but...this is stupid. I think folks are getting too caught up in buzzwords and his character and aren't looking at thing objectively. In my opinion, he's already shown that you can't trust him at his word, and that he's willing to try and manipulate folks with nonsense. He already admitted to it, tried to backtrack and hide it, then creates this whole narrative, which, in my opinion, is fairly ridiculous. Just release the messages, and let that talk for you, because he's ruined his own credibility. He's even doing the deflecting thing and trying to get heat off himself. He's just being manipulative.

so many things in docs response can be ok when isolated but just make no sense. "anyone can take messages out of context to make you look bad" true, but you were talking to a minor? right? in context you were talking to a minor? ok just checking. "I'm not perfect, nobody is" yeah.... but a person talking to a minor is more not perfect than someone (like me) who recently drove for 2 weeks on an expired tag, knowingly, because I was too lazy to go to the DMV. "they violated the NDA, i followed the rules!" Yeah dude, you didnt come out of the courthouse screaming "I WAS MESSAGING A MINOR!!!!!" great job dude, you really must have been struggling to not mention that. I could go on but you get my point, I presume. just put any "reasonable" thing he says into the context of "this guy admitted to talking inappropriately to a minor" and its pretty easy to see how it isnt a good excuse.

I think instead of if you killed somebody and came back, a better example to the Dr Disrespect situation would be if you said you hurt somebody. Its a vague statement, implies wrong, but covers a large spectrum, and we don't know if it was illegal or not. I just wish someone would release the actual messages for us to decide for ourselves with actual information rather than picking a side between he is a p*do or he did nothing wrong.

Here's what I think happened with the doctor disrespect issue. This manager he keeps referencing has it out for him. He has the power to remove him and I believe he was trying to use that power with this LER team to escalate it. Once they escalated it, they had to escalate it further to send it to the police and if what he's saying is true, then they did end up taking things out of context by targeting certain things that were sexually explicit. I remember this streamer named Inquisitor who was making very good content until somebody had edited a response in his DMs to her and it made it seem like he was talking with her sexually. People started to cancel inquisitor and Inquisitor ended up ending himself. When everyone found that out, the girl admitted that she lied because her and her brother just didn't like his content. It is really easy to take things out of contacts and show the world. The best thing to do in this situation is for everyone to see the entirety of the conversation. Let us decide if it's cancelable or not. On the flip side, doctor disrespect needs to tell us what was settled in court. If you didn't send any explicit messages, then what in the hell was settled in court where you had to pay a settlement?

At the end of the day the legal system is set up to protect guys like Dr Disrespect (and Drake!) so in all cases a lack of legal consequences is not proof of innocence. On top of that, Twitch clearly had a vested interest in keeping this quiet. There's 0% chance the Doc wasn't creepy to a minor. Even if she was 17 in a state where that's the legal age of consent. I'm not sure he was treated differently, Twitch has standards unlike Kick

So, I’ve never interacted with Nick’s or Guy’s content, but from what I can tell the “worst” Nik ever did was be performative and dramatic on his own channel and other similar content creators, meanwhile Disrespect lives up to his name by cheating on his wife, putting his kids through that breakup, and speaking inappropriately to minors. Why did we ever treat Nik so harshly again?

Dr Disrespect really heard The Heart part 6 and said let me take notes Also based on what he's been saying and phrasing it I can put together what could've happened. He WAS messaging a 17 year old who was technically legal where she was from based on what he said at 27:06 . His argument about it not being sexting is solely based on the fact no pics were sent nor received. That's why he gets defensive on what was actually sent being explicit cause words aren't as serious as pics

i feel like people are forgetting how much money twitch lost by banning him which they for sure were aware of, whatever he said or did in those dms must have been bad enough for them to accept such a monitary loss when we already see how greedy that company is. They don't even ban the literal "adult" content being put on there so why would they ever, in a million years ban someone because one employee had a "grudge"?

Dr disrespects explanation doesn't make any sense. If the person was over the age of consent, that means she wasn't a minor. But if he had to settle a lawsuit with text messages with a minor, that means she was not over the age of consent Also omni, when doctor disrespect was making that whole argument about people coordinating this attack against him, I believe he was referencing him meeting The girl at TwitchCon. What he's doing is deflecting the argument and slowly trying to move it to the fact where he wasn't trying to meet this girl. I don't know if he was or not but there is no proof that he was, so he's moving the argument to him trying to meet this girl at TwitchCon when what we're all here to talk about and find out was if he sent sexually explicit text messages to a minor. And since he had to settle something in court, that basically means that this girl was in fact a minor and in the state she was in, she more than likely was considered a minor. The things we don't really know is where this incident took place and wherever either of them live, do either of those places have a age of consent limit under the age of 17. If they do, then Dr disrespect is in the wrong.
@vincentlucario54502 ай бұрын
In the US, in some states the age of consent and the age of being an adult is different. In some states, the age of consent is like 15-16 while federally being an adult is 18+.
