Love how you described the group after watching the performance! I think everything you said (golden efficiency, providing the best, solid music) perfectly encapsulates what I love about the group! It's such a shame that new K-pop fans/new K-pop reactors don't check out this group more. It's great seeing someone like you checking them out! INFINITE definitely deserves more attention, and their music/melodies are sorely missed in current K-pop. Hopefully, producers can come somehow bring this sound back to the industry.

I agree! its fantastic, I think sadly there is a strange that there is always this separation of older listeners and newer ones, that if everyone just listened to everything as a whole, we would have a lot more interesting mix of new and old kpop

You really can't go wrong with Infinite and the producers Sweetune. Infinite really were part of the 2nd gen vocal trifecta of Beast/Highlight, SHINee, and Infinite like pretty sure they had a nickname for those three groups specifically related to how good the live vocals of those groups are. I've always really been saddened by the huge change in how people view dancing in kpop in general with the newer generations since to be me it feels like it's really gone to the view that the best dancing is the most complicated and fastest even if it doesn't fit the song. Last Romeo is literally one of my top choreos in all of kpop, the melts they do, fast to slow, it really feels like it fits the song, they can physically sing while doing it. It's so satisfying to watch especially with how they move their lines and change the focus of the audience to each singer. I feel like such an old kpop fan when get on my 2nd gen/early 3rd gen high horse and I truly don't mean to. But god I love this song so much.

ok, now that I got this kind of comment I can finally ask it, I am in the dark on this. at their peak, how popular was Infinite?
@Pamanda666

They were very popular granted I'm not Korean or anything but all the members are pretty well known. L/Myungsoo is definitely the most well known he's acted in a ton of dramas and is very good, won awards and stuff but Sungyeol is also a very good actor. Sunggyu is quite a popular soloist and guest on variety shows, which Sungjong is also a very popular host/guest on variety. Woohyun is super well known as one of the top vocals in kpop (along with Sunggyu) I'm pretty sure he got the highest score of an idol on the show Immortal Songs. Dongwoo even though he is technically the rapper has done a lot of musicals. A ton of their title tracks songs are super well known and covered. Their 'biggest' years were probably 2012-2014. Billboard literally launched their Kpop column with Infinite and they were the first group to be invited to perform at billboard. The Chaser, released in 2012, was the named best kpop song of 2012 and on Billboard is 3rd overall for kpop in 2010s and Rolling Stones featured it on their list of 75 best boy group songs. They have one of best selling albums in 2013 and were the first korean group to be granted to permission to film an mv at Universal Studios Hollywood. Were the first Korean group on Billboards emerging artists chart. Woohyun popularized the use of finger hearts in kpop in general. They are the reason people use the terms 'knife-like sync' when describing idol dancing. But like they are still selling out concerts handily. Like when they came back this year L pushed them to have a bigger venue than they originally were going to have because some of the other members were nervous that after 5 years they wouldn't sell that many tickets but they totally did. There is behind the scenes of the members attempting to buy tickets to their own concert and getting stuck in a queue behind like hundreds of people lmao

@@Killdeer25 These are some of Infinite's achievements since you asked; 1) they brings the term (synchronized dancing) to kpop, as kpop groups began to focus on synchronized dancing after them. 2) first group to break the barrier of BIG3 companies and win BEST BOY GROUP award in MAMA. 3) first group to be called to perform at Billboard studios and the reason behind Billboard creating a special section for K-Pop (Billboard Korea). 4) the group that was competing with BIG3 boy groups in album sales to the point that SM thought about acquiring Woolim In order to control Infinite. 5) first group to win their comeback on all music shows achieving all-kill. 6) despite taking break for 5 years without a comeback they are still in the top 10-15 for the highest number of wins in music shows since 2010 till this day. 7) first group to appear on Weekly Idol and because of the success of the episode the program continued to this day and same thing happened with knowing brothers they wanted to see the reactions if they bring kpop group to their show and after infinite being the first group to appear they started bringing other boy groups to the program. 8) they were recognized for their live singing/ acappella and their harmonies (they were called’ CD Swallowers’ by the public). 9) first group to create a new logo for each album. 10) One of the first groups to release a live album for their concerts. 11) the group that still performs with a whole live band at their concerts. 12) they were summoned by the Korean President personally to represent Korea&K-Pop in Mexico. 13) Woohyun records the highest score in the oldest singing program in Korea (Immortal Song) among idols since 2016, and no one has been able to surpass his score until today. He also won against Ali one of the best singers in korea who has the highest score on that program. Gyu the leader has been recognized as a judge on idol survival shows as well. and 3 members are known as musical actors and the others as drama actors. they produced songs and created their own company as gyu the leader being the ceo. these boys are literally legends, yet they are known for their undying love for their fans, their humility and good manners with no scandals or problems among idols and the public, and their strong friendship.

What I notice about more recent generations of kpop is that it’s so slick. Really complex cgi videos, insanely beautiful people, super intricate choreography, the most cutting edge production. And all of that is great. I love a lot of Gen 4 and now Gen 5 groups and some of them for these very reasons. In fact last night I watched a debut ‘live stage’ of an entirely AI kpop group and although the performance was very uncanny valley, the song was fantastic. But, like I said it was very uncanny valley and I had a really sinking feeling watching it. I wanted to know who the real people were that sang the songs but are apparently physically unnecessary. I googled them and although the ‘members’ speak and interact and dance based on deep fake and AI learning, their vocal performance is done by anonymous singers. So now we are definitely in the era where the industry just wants the voice and they will AI the rest. And probably soon they will just AI the vocal performance too. It’s incredibly depressing. All that to say, when I go back to the older generations of kpop, I see groups where the burden of proof is on the artists. The hair and outfits might be dated, the stage effects and sets are really there and not high tech LED screens you really just have a group of people who’s entire success is predicated on how their blood sweat and tears has created something that touches the audience. It’s real and it’s visceral. Not saying that new groups don’t also work hard or aren’t talented but they are helped by a lot of slick packaging that older groups just didn’t have. And it seems like they are the last of their kind. I’m so glad I discovered kpop while I can still see groups old and new who are actual people making music that moves me. But I am putting that AI song on my Spotify. 😅

Noo I get what you're saying, one of the craziest things in metal right now is the fact that bands really dont exist anymore, usually its a singer that just has all the rest of the group pre programmed, I assume you are talking about MAVE? I saw that they exist, have yet to listened to them, it does seem like the next step to the Japanese vocaloids. I completely agree, that's why I think its so cool to watch these older groups, even their music performances is pretty rough sometimes, you can hear them struggling to dance and sing and honestly, that rough and kinda not as pretty sounding performances is the ones I live for, you aren't hiding anything, but showing your abilities. sadly enough like many people in metal K-pop is getting too comfortable with everything being perfectly polished, no judgements on liking the AI stuff though haha

@@Killdeer25 Huh I didn’t realize that this is happening in metal too although of course why wouldn’t it be if the technology is the same. Yeah I was talking about Mave. I just stumbled on the performance from watching a compilation of most watched live stages. It was the last song in the compilation. Like I said the song was a fantastic song. Nothing to do with the so called performers who looked just the wrong side of real. I wasn’t even sure if the singing was AI generated but according to Wikipedia anyway, there are real vocalists. Not gonna lie, one of them sounded like Wendy from Red Velvet. I’m torn about the real singers. Like if it was Wendy, good for her making some money in a side career. At least I hope the real singers are getting paid decently while avoiding the celebrity bullshit that comes with it. Like voice actors. But on the other hand, why can’t the real singers be themselves? Are they somehow not worthy of being artists in their own right? I hate to imagine that they are some incredibly talented singers but who don’t fit the visual standard or whatever other garbage excuse that they aren’t commercially viable in their own right. I just hope that they are people who are doing this because they are excited and interested in being part of AI generated music and art and are being paid fairly to do so. But I’m old enough to be pretty skeptical about that. Anyway, I won’t be following Mave because I have no interest in imaginary people. Maybe if the AI’s actually become sentient. But whoever wrote the song, whether it was actual songwriters or AI composer, it is a really catchy song. It was Pandora if you’re interested.
