Thanks Cory (again). I am really interested in the infinite series and want Aaron to succeed because I think he is doing something different in the sampled instrument realm. I have the brass (not had a chance to d/l the latest update yet), and want to get the winds (on sale now). I think these are very interesting tools and I think they sound great and are hugely flexible in a way that most (?all) traditionally sampled instruments are not.

Thank you Cory. Thank you for a good review. I really like the technology of this library, and I hope that other manufactures are taking notice. I would love for more playability like this. But, I still think the sounds lack quite a bit of realism, especially the flutes. They don't sound like real flutes, but like an older synth, mimicking one. The clarinets and oboes are better, and I also think the brass works way better. Maybe it is that the sound lends itself better to the processing? And maybe you are right about that they work better in a mix, but as a "solo" instrument it wouldn't work for me. I do hope this way of creating samples improves, and these libraries are still a great step forward.
@stfciu3 жыл бұрын
What library do you think has the best realism? As far as I am concerned VSL has the best reputation but still I find some people that do not like the tone. The cinesamples are also very fine in terms of the sound but they are not much flexible. 8dio Claire is ok as well but mostly for solo passages. I also find Sonokinetic ensembles really well and imo have a great tone but...ensembles only. I think Infinite Series has still some room for improvement in terms of the sound considering the approach that was taken (dry samples) but Aaron proved that this is more of a project than singular release so I have a strong faith it will get better and bettter in time.
@dirtrobot3 жыл бұрын
they need eq'ing and some reverb treatment for sure, BUT the playability allows for an excellent performance which you can then layer with other libraries to really take advantage of what infinite offers
@SecondTierSound3 жыл бұрын
@@stfciu As stated, I also believe in the future of this way of producing instruments, but I don't think we are there yet. Pianoteq is another example, where it is getting better each time, but still is not quite as good as real samples. Samples are pain in the... though, so perhaps a hybrid is the best option, still. In terms of realism, there is no library that does it all, so it is a mix, depending on what you need. If you know what you are after, certain libraries will deliver really well. I do think that OrchestraTools is still the king of most libraries, and they are amazing in the winds, but they are also overpriced. The libraries you mentioned are all good in their respect, and also all have their unique problems, so it is a matter of what you can live with. But I would also add Fluffy Audio to the list. Very good library. Personally, I can't live with the sound of the Infinite's flute, yet, and almost any sample library out there does it better, in terms of realism. But when it comes to playability, infinite woodwinds hits it way out of the park. I would love to be able to "perform" my tracks faster, but it is still true that I hang out mostly in the key editor anyway, so I wouldn't benefit that immensely owning infinite. A bit yes, but not a ton. Overall, I think that cinematic studio libraries have a fantastic balance between idiomatic instruments, and very good realistic results. They don't have a woodwinds library yet, but if it will be similar to what they have produced so far, I would put my money in that basket, if the OrchestraTools is just way out of your price point. Cheers!
@SecondTierSound3 жыл бұрын
I forgot to say, that in terms of price, and getting most of what you need, a lot of people are very happy with cinesamples woodwinds libraries. They have also done some very nice updates to their libraries recently that have taken care of some of the "problems" they had in the past. They also have a 50% sale right now. No, I don't work for them :) Maybe other libraries will have better sales eventually, we are in that time now, but I think you wouldn't be sad with that purchase. And I also forgot to say that Spitfire is very good as well.
@SecondTierSound3 жыл бұрын
@@dirtrobot Perhaps, why not? But then you need a library to help the other? Anyway, I don't think EQing can save the sound of the flutes at this stage. Maybe I am a perfectionist, but both the attack, and especially the legato gives it away, even though the legato is technically impressive. Cheers!

Hi Cory, thank you for all your highly musical reviews of these libraries, can’t get enough of them! Do you see this as a first dedicated woodwind library for someone just starting out in orchestral composition? Or would it make more sense getting an older but „proven“ library like CineWinds? Or even wait for CSW (as CSS will be my first string libray)? So far I only have Nucleus… All the best
@CoryPelizzari3 жыл бұрын
Infinite Woodwinds is more of a precision tool for those who want complete control over the keyboard. It won't sound as true-to-life but will feel more lifelike under the fingers if you prefer to play your samples live. If you'd prefer a more true-to-life out of the box sound I'd say wait for CSW as there aren't many mid priced woodwinds libraries that have satisfying quality across the board. CineWinds, Spitfire Studio Woodwinds and others like them have faults and imperfections that can drive you mad if you want strong consistency across the library, especially for the legatos. Ever since Embertone released their wind instrument libraries other sample devs have been trying to catch up with that level of legato polish and human expression for orchestral woodwinds and it's extremely difficult to master (even the most expensive woodwinds libraries have drawbacks here and there). A lot of composers are banking on CSW to close in on that polish.

Hi dear, thanks a lot for this great review! I'm testing a demo version of Swam woodwinds which looks a bit more realistic when it comes to flutes and saxophones (and more flexible also for writing and improvising solo lines in various styles), but the price, interface and playability of this "Infinite" one seems unbeatable! Especialy considering the price of the bundle with Infinite Brass which is wonderful (If you compared Infinite and Swam woodwinds, your advice is welcome!). Technically, is it possible with Infinite woodwinds to realize the glissandos between 2 notes (especially for the clarinet, with a portamento option?). This is the only important thing for me that is missing from your review... thanks!

The brass one is quite astounding in most of the patches, but I feel like a lot of the the woodwinds are more suited for sketching rather than being used as a final form. I feel like they should be replaced with something else for the final product.
@pinksucccubus3 жыл бұрын
I did say most, and not all, because a lot of the woodwinds actually do sound like they 1up every other version of that instrument in other libraries. Just some of them are missing that flowiness that a lot of other libraries accomplish much better.

@HankblueАй бұрын
It sounds a lot like a real flute, just not /exactly/ like one. This is partly because there's no automation on the vibrato/flutter/growl controls, and partly because the room IR isn't perfectly realistic. But in skilled hands this library is amazing, and layered with other woods in a full mix you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
