He’s singing about the death of their drummer. Asking the gods if they did something wrong. If that’s the reason why they took him. It’s a deep album all in all

Even though this was dedicated to the death of their drummer (the REV) you really are creative with your thinking to the lyrics. I like it.

The first time I heard this song, I was caught by the drumming, until I heard the duets between the guitars and was blown away. As a more "old school" metalhead, I had a bias against AV7X, but this song changed that. The guitars sound like they are pleading, almost crying.

The great thing about good music is that you can take your own meaning from it and connect to it in different ways. Don’t feel bad about getting something different than what the band got from it, because as you said, it didn’t directly point towards it being about The Rev. There are lines that are much more powerful knowing the intentions the band had with it though. “So much to see tonight so why’d you close your eyes? Why can’t I shut mine?” Is the one that stood out to me more than any other. And as for the final chorus of the song, tonight we all die young was actually a line written by the rev himself. This song is a couple different songs they were working on put together and mixed up, but parts of it were written by the rev. To me, that line is saying that a piece of them died along with him. He died too young, and he was so loved and a part of their lives that part of them went as well. It’s beautiful when you think of it that way. I can see how not knowing the situation you could gather the thoughts that you did, and they make sense as well. Anyway, good reaction 🤙

@@chrismeadows4216 actually he wroted the most of the song and sang some parts in the demo. and the drum line, of course
@chrismeadows42163 жыл бұрын
@@MataramMeuBode He didn't write most of the song. He wrote drum parts used in the first few minutes, the synthesizer part, and demoed rough vocal melodies. The chorus was reworked and everything in the 2nd half of the song was written after he passed away. M. Shadows wrote all of the lyrics and the piano part at the end, Syn and Zacky wrote all of the guitar parts, Johnny wrote the bass part in the intro, and Portnoy completed the majority of the sparse drumming Jimmy had done. The songs Jimmy was more involved with are Nightmare, Buried Alive, Welcome to the Family, and Fiction, but he still wasn't part of the album's lineup. God Hates Us, Tonight the World Dies, So Far Away, and Victim didn't have any trace of his writing or playing on them.

This song is about James "The Rev" Sullivan. The dream that Matt was losing is being famous with all of the friends he loved since they were very young and enjoying the life of famous musicians together. Sadly, things happen, and that dream was stripped from the whole band when Jimmy died. You should react to a lyric video for Not Ready to Die from the same A7Xlyrics channel. It's an incredible song. Easily in my top 3.
@chrismeadows42163 жыл бұрын
Side note: "SKULL" at the beginning was one of The Rev's demo vocals. He partially composed this song before passing away, although it wasn't anywhere near finished. Mostly rough drum takes and vocal melodies.

If you're up to something Very different but you can still hear avenged in it, I recommend Synyster Gates & The Rev's side project, Pinkly Smooth. They called it goblin metal and they only ever released a six song EP back in 2002, when they were still really young things. You can clearly hear some of future Avenged sound in them, but it's different, with the Rev singing and Synyster Gates in guitar. I'd suggest starting with their song Mezmer, see what you think. :)

The rev wrote this as one of his last songs
@puppetmaster85513 жыл бұрын
Not really, he contributed some to the song including some drums he recorded, Matt wrote all the lyrics Zacky/Syn guitars and Johnny on bass, portnoy put down what drums the Rev had recorded and then added his own stuff where needed. So Jimmy got a songwriting credit but it’s not like something like a little piece of heaven where he wrote the whole song.
