I hate how entitled Simon acts. He grew up feeling totally unsafe and powerless on the train, so now he's obsessed with having total control over everything. He has a very black-and-white view of what his entire world is "supposed" to be like. The conductor is supposed to be legendary, Grace is supposed to be with him, and all denizens are supposed to be evil. If anything deviates from that, he feels threatened and lashes out violently. His trauma turned him into a complete control freak. I think that's why he likes miniatures so much.
@gothamstreet61154 жыл бұрын
@iAmVeryRandom In Grace's defense, she only told Simon what she thought was the truth. To her, getting your number up was a good thing, and her basic understanding of the train at the time was denizens don't mean anything, and that Amelia was the True conductor. Grace's "betrayal" was her realizing everything she thought she knew was wrong, and trying to better herself as a person, and because she knew what Simon could do, she kept the secret from him. Simon could have done the same and we know that because he's been given numerous chances to change, but he rejected all of them. While Grace helped to make Simon the way he is, what Simon does now is his own actions, and Simon refused to change and realize that he was wrong about everything. That's on him, not Grace.
@Anonymous_Gambito4 жыл бұрын
@iAmVeryRandom Simon didn't know how to work the train but Grace didn't either. She was also a child. They created all this mess together, one didn't "turn" the other into this. He got stuck on the train with no instruction as a very young child. Most children have a black and white world view and the problem with Simon is that his childish outlook kept being reinforced time and time again. Season three revolves around the old apex crumbling, and Simon crumbled with it.

Writers should use Hazel as an example of how to write a child character. Hazel is cheerful, trusting, naive, and...well, childish. At the same time, as this scene wonderfully shows, she's able to understand what's going on around her, and is able to figure things out (like how, despite acting tough, the Apex is just a bunch of scared kids doing what they think is right so they can survive).

Honestly I still think Amelia is still the bigger monster compared to both Grace and Simon. I mean even though she’s trying to fix the mistakes she caused by helping One-One you can’t help but think that she was the cause for both Grace and Simon to become complete psychos when she took control of the train. You can’t really blame the two too much for their actions since they pretty much grew up on the train without any moral guidance.
@StarrChild.4 жыл бұрын
Interesting to note though that Grace chooses to learn from her wrong actions. Simon didn’t. Even if he was taken here when he was 10, he still would have known right and wrong. Amelia is still terrible for what she did but she isn’t to blame for Grace and Simons own moral compass. And it was still, overall, the train who pulled in two 10 year old kids.
@KingToast08044 жыл бұрын
GloomilyCute Yeah it is true that it’s the train’s fault itself for bringing helpless people on board in the first place. Amelia isn’t fully to blame but she is partially because she unintentionally cause this whole big chain of events and screwing everyone on the train because they had no idea what their numbers really meant and how to get off the train because One-One wasn’t there to explain it anymore. I just feel a bit sympathetic to both Simon and Grace because if I imagined being in their positions I probably would have turned out like them if I got on the train as a 10 year old.

As heartbreaking as Hazel's departure was, Grace kind of brought it on herself. She broke Hazel's trust with her comment to her in the previous episode, just so she could maintain good standing with Simon and pretend like her views on denizens hadn't been drastically changed by the time she spent with Hazel (and Tuba). Grace was afraid (not of Hazel, but of being found out) and she said something hurtful that she couldn't take back and she paid the price for it. It’s crazy seeing how even though Hazel chose to leave because of how the apex feared her - it was Grace who was truly in danger when Amelia left.

Poor poor Hazel, the most character in the book. She lost her mother and her innocence.

What I want in Book 4: Hazel has mastered her turtle side and can use it to defend herself. She and Amelia wear matching uniforms, and Amelia has gone from indifference to "if anything ever happened to Hazel I would kill everyone aboard this train and then myself."

I hope season 5 will reveal something more about Hazel. My personal theory is that train is partially like organism. One-One is brain controlling it, but he doesn't have total control as everyone think. The train itself can take some actions on it's own (season 4 episode 1: One and Amelia are surprised to see "double passenger") and see Amelia's carts - full of glitches - as kind of infection. And trying to fight them by making things inside less unstable. Hazel turns into turtle when she's angry or scared, and Amelia's carts were full of turtle-themed elements. Also Amelia is afraid she will never leave the train because her number is too high to be lowered at this point. So maybe train is trying to give Amelia chance for redemption through rising a child, that could be her daughter if her boyfriend wouldn't pass away.

In a weird way, Tuba's death made Hazel a lot more mature. Not that that's healthy at that age, but it will help her survive.

Simon’s got some serious jealousy issues. You think he ever Wheeled other Apex members that he thought Grace liked more than him?

If this continued I feel like Amelia and Hazel would have an early Piccolo and Gohan type of relationship where Amelia would act gruff with Hazel but slowly come to care for her like her own daughter (which she essentially is).

Simon may have had some sort of sad or traumatizing past before and during his stay on the train but because of his actions he had something coming to him eventually. The consequences had caught up to him.
