Patlian Lake: A Peaceful Motorcycle Journey - EP8, P1 (Neelum Valley)

Our adventure to Patlian Lake began from the scenic village of Lawat, located just off the Keran Bypass near Dawarian, approximately 400-500 meters ahead of the famous Ratti Gali trek. The bypass leads to Lawat Bala, a charming village offering SCO 4G service, affordable hotels, and local restaurants. Lawat Bala is not only a hub for travelers but also a gateway to the serene off-road paths leading deeper into Neelum Valley.
From Lawat Bala, one road goes towards Nakdar in Keran, while another rough jeep track takes you to Biari village. Biari is a traditional Kashmiri-style village, where you’ll find some guest houses and hotel rooms. However, no mobile service is available in this peaceful location, giving you a true escape into nature. This village is significant as it connects to two incredible routes - one leading to Baboon Valley, and the other towards the Patlian Lake base camp.
The ride from Keran to Lawat Bala covers a well-paved 10 km road, while the jeep track from Lawat Bala to Biari stretches over 4 km. The challenging 16 km off-road track from Biari to Patlian base camp is suitable only for 4x4 vehicles or motorcycles in good condition. Along this tough route, you’ll experience two water crossings, 22 breathtaking waterfalls, and expansive lush green meadows. This off-road journey offers a raw adventure, showcasing the untouched beauty of Neelum Valley.
A few kilometres before reaching the base camp, you’ll pass by a small dhok, a summer settlement where shepherd families live, adding a cultural touch to the rugged landscape. The Patlian Lake trek is a true off-the-beaten-path experience, surrounded by pristine natural beauty that has remained largely undiscovered by mass tourism.
Standing at an elevation of 12,960 feet above sea level, Patlian Lake in Neelum Valley is a hidden paradise that promises stunning views, serene waters, and a sense of tranquillity that only the remote valleys of Kashmir can offer.
