They did a piss poor job of explaining how a refrigerator works. Also sulfur dioxide and ammonia were not used as "coolants" in home refrigerators, they were used as refrigerants just the same as modern (less toxic) refrigerants are used today.

....it makes it sound like all the compressor does is move the coolant around.

there's more than 1 kind of IR, y'know. the wiimote or nightvision cameras use the mehod you are talking about, which is based on actual IR light. but IR cameras based on heat work VERY differently and use a different part of the radiation spectrum IR light or visible light in general.

It's thermal camera, not infrared. and Pretzil43, it's double the temperature in CELSIUS, you can't mix it with Kelvin.
@avada04 жыл бұрын
thermal is infrared though...
@Volventures12 жыл бұрын
That was a little more about refrigerators than it was infrared cameras...
@Toastmaster_500012 жыл бұрын
i was hoping they'd explain how IR cameras work, not refridgerators

Thanks Natgeo. I thought the freezer is hot.

"The top section is at double that" So, the top of the fridge is at 281C? You can't double a Celsius temperature, so it would have to be double in Kelvin, unless Nat Geo doesn't care about science...
@elAfreet12 жыл бұрын
simply it works by blocking visible light and other forms of light, allowing only infrared light through the lens

Why not instead cover heat distribution in the human body for various circumstances such as unfit vs athletic at rest vs under exertion. Or, how to wrap up effectively for very cold weather?

Was that remark supposed to be funny? I man he really said "what a shocking revaluation. The freezer is cold". I mean it's not like we been storing shit in the dirt for summer months....

Looks like these guys need to attend at minimum a Level 1 Thermography Training Course... No Level and Span adjustment.. Difference between a Thermograhper and someone with an Infrared camera in their hands..

Then you are both right and wrong. Thermal images is what you get after an IR camera like this has processed the infrared light through its lenses, filters and electronics. Infrared light is the wavelength of which heat can be seen and is what the germanium lenses pick up. Note on this video though is that the camera used is really bad. Had they used a better one, say one from FLIR the camera would have adjusted to the temperature and the picture would have been clearer and not just a black blob
@HBSanta12 жыл бұрын
Agreed. This video apparently was made for five-year-olds.

I'm Sure this is 'Thermal Imaging' and not 'Infrared' ?
@davidstrahan64858 жыл бұрын
Same thing... Thermal Imaging is measurement of Long Wave Infrared radiation emitted from the source. It would be like them calling this Infrared Imaging. This is a LWIR camera ( Long Wave Infrared Camera)

As an explanation of refrigeration, this wasn't. Pathetic. There's a difference between popularising real science and making edgy sciency sounding pretty pictures, and this item shows it.
