This is a relatively straight forward process!
Having said that there is a risk of damaging your camera so proceed with caution at your own risk!!!
Apologies for the preamble, sometimes I like to have a chat and give context…
Basically by removing 4 screws within the lens mount you are able to remove the IR cut filter that sits in front of of the cameras sensor.
At that point you allow your camera to see a wider spectrum of light.
However you will often still want to restrict the spectrum to get more control over the exact look of your newly IR sensitive camera!
I opted to use filters in front of the lens as this would allow me to choose filtration that cut and transmitted different areas of the infrared spectrum, but you could get a specific replacement for the cameras IR cut filter to drop in that would make it a more ‘semi-permanent’ mod.
But I wanted the flexibility as I want to try different looks without needing to open the camera up.
If you are choosing after the lens filtration you should be adding another piece of glass with the same thickness as the stock IR cut but optically flat. Basically without a piece of glass here it is possible your lenses won’t be able to hit infinity focus… but in the video as I was going to only be close focused for the test I opted not.

I wish i had enough money to have a dedicated abyss room like him.

I’m going to call it my abyss room from now on 😅 TBH this is just the smallest room painted dark grey, but granted having the ‘spare’ room to do that is something I’m grateful for.

@@Dale_Campbell I'm a college student so things are tight, on a more related Note do you have a tutorial for the cannon 4000D? I got a good deal on a used one.

Hi, you didn't add the dimensions of the glass on the video, could you add it in the description please

Doh! 😅 It is a 27.5mm diameter piece of glass 1.5mm thickness FLAT

This hack enables us to see the unseen, capture the shallow veils of the matrix😂! Thanks for the tutorial! I will try to replicate it on my Canon M5 someday!!

What about the specifications of the clear glass??

Interesting. I was under the impression that the 4k didn't have an IR cut filter, hence the IR pollution that was often present in the shadows with the 4K, particularly when using NDs. I was careful to specifically get ND filters with IR cut buit-in. I suppose it was because they just didn't use a very good IR cut filter.

Basically that’s it, a lot of Blackmagic cameras have leaned towards having an IR cut filter that lets through more Infrared than a lot of other manufacturers cameras. But trust me running it with no IR cut at all is wayyyy more intense 😅

Hi i read somewhere that in Dune they replaced the IR filter with a visible light filter.

Absolutely! So at 16:38 I mention the one I’m using. You have a choice when modding as you could fit a filter for visible light back over the sensor. I opted not to as you can also just put one on the lens. This allows you to choose which filtration you want to use / experiment more easily as there are many different ‘sensitivities’ of filtration measured in nanometers.

your mirror imaged top down video sure does make it confusing to see you turning screws clockwise to remove them.
