It's polycarbonate made by Mitsubishi and is classified as food grade.

@@Bigelowbrook “BPA-free means that a product made out of plastic does not use an organic compound called Bisphenol A in its construction. BPA is primarily used in the production of polycarbonate plastic - the strong, transparent plastic that might make up the water cooler at your office, or the tupperware you use to bring your lunch to work.” ^ quick google search. I was looking for better materials that are bpa free, and don’t release/leaching chemicals in saltwater. Like Hdpe ,food grade, NSF certified etc. I like the product but steer clear of anything less especially with bpa or leaching plastic.

The polycarbonate is called lupilon S-30000UR so you are free to do your own research on it. It was chosen because it is more rigid than other plastics like HDPE or ABS, won't wear as fast as the software plastics, and is impact resistant. Obviously you are concerned about BPA so you should refrain from purchasing products that use polycarbonates or epoxies, such as bottled water, canned goods, computers, automobiles, foods that are packaged, food grown in greehouses, etc. I've seen some studies that have found that "bpa-free" products are no safer.
